Isn't that first pic just a Mac from Colorware? And the second set of pictures don't even seem to make any sense. The screen bezel has no exposed latch points for the physical latches (suggesting a magnetic latch), but the bottom half has a latch button. Which isn't even the same in the three pictures.

I believe that second set of photos have been around for some time as someone's imagined future for the macbook pro. I mean really, I don't see apple incorporating a upper black aluminum case with a mirror-polished under-side like the iPod. That sort of design would find its way into the macbook long before designers considered it for the macbook pro.

yeah.i just found them on the net.did not make them by myself:D...

I'm waiting for an ultralight for now. I love my MBP, but it's just a slight bit too big as I fly sometimes twice a week. I'll either be getting the next macbook or an ultralight (fingers crossed) for when I'm away.

yeah.the mbp is the thinnest 17" and 15"(?)
So it wouldent suprise me if apple push the limit and make it more sleek..i have never seen the point with a big/heavy weight laptop anyways...

Jobs just threw in the 2.6 ghz to tide us kiddies over the holidays, and the fact that these updates came very very silently leads me to beleive that MBP is getting Penryn in January and that the the GHZ in the MB will be increased.

THE MACBOOK WILL NOT GET A REDESIGN SINCE IT MADE A BIG JUMP TO SR. Jobs is faced with the problem, if he gives the MB EVERYTHInG NOW, SANTA ROSA, and a speed increase, that it will affect the MBP sales. since the speeds will be essentially the same.

After all the blackbook and the 15" low end have the same speed now.

I think that MBP will go to Penryn and a 2.6 and 2.8 possibly.

The MB will get a speed adjustment up to 2.2. and 2.4 or something similar to that

What do you think the probability is that the MBPs will be updated in January? and more importantly, how long would it take for them to ship? Does anyone have an idea based on historical info?

acording to buyers guide the upgrade will come januar (average 186 days)
And then you have mackworld 15 jan sf..
And with the 250$ fee for upgrade to 2.6..you clearly see it's not a real upgrade.if it where they definetly would not make it a fee.penryns are waiting;)
And if it comes in january the shipping will be 2 weeks.ore more if custom order..
my dime:)

I realised that I am not actually on the lookout for a upgrade or anything like that. The hardware in the portable Macs today are fast enough for me. What I really want is a new design or just something new, I want to re experience the child like wonder of getting a new Mac product, open it up like a gift in front of the tree on Christmas morning and trying it out for the first time. The joy of exploring something new and amazing like only Apple can create.

I want Steve Jobs to unveil it and let his reality distortion field wash over me and work its magic. I want every boom! of the presentation to be like a new slap to my face that makes me desire the product 10 times more. Until I can hardly contain my glee and I want then to be able to order it from the Apple store immediately, not like the iPhone where I had to wait 6 agonizing months of desiring it so much everyday that I almost burned myself out on it by the time I got one in my hand.

Damn it, there better be a redesign or some sort of new cool Mac hardware at MacWorld 08, now I have all these high expectations.

So the Jan MBP updates will be fairly minor? Evolutionary changes rather than a complete overhaul? Someone (on another thread) reckoned the Jan MBP's would be the "holy grail" ... doesn't seem that most people agree with that thought.

No, you are not alone. I totally agree. The jump to the aluminum fronts for the iPod classic and the aluminum enclosure for the iMac really made the products seem more durable and of better quality. Besides, white plastic scratches easy and shows any sort of dirt you get on it. I would love to see the macbook line go aluminum.

Way to go...

Why would anyone want that tacky black **** instead of the nice aluminum?

I think Apple will release a new design at Macworld in January. This new design will be refined as they get ready to release the quad-core MBP in late 2008.

It doesn't fit with the rest of the look, and I'm not sure if it's just me but I'm adamant that the keyboard is of a different colour to that of the chassis.

I have a couple of questions to you guys to get your opinion on.

The 13 MBP that is rumoured what does people thing it will retail at? I know no one knows what will be in it or whether there will actually be one but if there was one will it be more expensive or cheaper then the 15” model?

If the MBP gets the expected hardware updates (Penryn, new graphics etc) will it offer a big increase in performance over the current hardware?

Do people really believe that the Macbook will get an update of any kind at Macworld or is it just wishful thinking? I not a Mac man yet and don’t know the history of its update process but looking at the buying guide no product has received a update within 2 months after its be updated so why are people thinking it will get updated again at Macworld?

Thanks:)

It's probably wishful thinking, but the only reason that it's not totally absurd is that the last update for the MB didn't have even the slightest acknowledgment on the Apple website, other than the new specs.

Thanks for the response, I haven’t being following Macs for long probably 3 or 4 months now but correct me if I am wrong but when the Macbook got a update before the last one that seem alot more minor and there was not a big deal about, same with the update to the Mac mini. Since I have followed Macs I have only witness publicity around the Macbook Pro, iMac and ipods of course.
I am a waiter, the restaurant kind but I am waiting for the development of the 13” MBP and hopefully to see one at Macworld, however the more I think about the more confusing it becomes, if they produced a 13 MBP then it extremely reduces the chances of people buying the Macbook which seems to be their best selling product, however they would like to compete with the Dell XPS 1330 and the other rivals. hmm......

one more wish

If it turns out that old man Steve does not pull out a new mac out of his magical hat and drop the collective jaw of the interwebs then there is one way for them to redeem themselves in my eyes.

For the longest time I have been wanting to buy an external HDD to go with my MacBook. For almost a year I searched high and low for such a thing with the the style and beauty to if not match the aesthetics of the Apple desined beauty then at least not be a complete eyesore.

Alas after many months of searching I finally broke down and bought a Lacie portable HDD that was "designed" by FA Porche. I put emphasis on design because despite its claim of being desinged by a famous (i guess) designer it is compared to anything Apple, well, butt ugly.

With timemachine in Leopard I think it is time that Apple themselves design an external HDD that I can proudly place next to any Apple product. All other computer hrdware manufacturers have long demonstrated their inaptitude in design for this to be an absolute neccesity.

You should have got the WD Passport, it comes in black, white, silver and red in a range of sizes at a great price, and it looks great.

Close, but no cigar. I still want Apple to make one themselves, I know they will do me right and charge twice as much as they should for it. But what can I say, I am a sucker for beautiful design and proper attention to aesthetics.

I doubt a wired external harddrive is part of the long-term picture, I'm sure Apple will have something smart up their sleeve like a wireless backup via an inbuilt HDD into AirPort or something.

Wireless backup sucks and takes forever. It may work with small files, but it's unrealistic with anything over 50 or more gigs. It took almost 10 hours to back up only 20GB over my current airport network... I cancelled it and just plugged directly into the FW port.

Im gonna sell my core duo macbook on ebay because well, people that buy computers on ebay are stupid ( I should know, I was one of them) although its still a great macbook I expect to get more than its worth now that its outdated. Im going to buy my first macbook pro now that I have the cash:p
