Add me to the list that would gladly pay $$ for a USA made iPhone, iPad, and Macbook. We are not only killing jobs in the US, but killing the Chinese people that work ungodly hours with no unions to help them for very little pay. Is that the world that young hippie Steve Jobs wanted????

And if you take away Chinese manufacturing they'll have no jobs. How is that better?

Just wait until the NORTH AMERICAN UNION becomes a reality.. Canada, Mexico, and the US under one currency, the AMERO.. Dark times are looming for the US and its not pretty.. the coming depression is going to happen, as inflation moves in for the kill.

That ain't gonna happen soon. One of the common things that unites Canadians is the desire to not be American.

One of the things that America insists on is complete sovereignty ... so the US ain't gonna give up the absolute control over it's currency that it would take to entice Canada into a Union.

The US doesn't want take over Canada anymore, 'cause we'd all vote Democrat and upset the current balance of power. Plus the US doesn't need yet one more jurisdiction that insists on language rights. And they certainly don't want more than 10% of a new combined population insisting on universal health care, and spreading those views throughout the continent. That'd be like Socialism, or Liberalism, or something un-American, like - eh? sorry - Uh?

I can't speak for Mexico, so I've left them out of my post - I suspect they feel the same way, but I don't know.

I think lowering regulations and the tax burden on businesses so it's more cost effective to hire here would help more in the long run, rather than assuming everyone in our Country is capable of being an engineer.

You can't lower the tax burden for businesses much more, companies like GE pay nothing in taxes and still export jobs. Also lowering regulations will get you to where a lot of workers end up dead or injured.

Sure wish I could buy an Apple product with an option to have it made here

I would like to see a Red White & Blue apple version offered

How much more would it cost to produce an iPhone made in US?

Not going to happen anytime soon.

Actually the fears about NAFTA and jobs were completely and utterly wrong.

Having foreigners provide cheap labor is a good thing. Maybe your dream is for your kids to work on an assembly line? Didn't think so.

Where are they?

Sad state of affairs for the USA , and Apple the number 1 tech company in the USA , and we can't produce a fricken iphone
Don't you just love NAFTA what happened to all the jobs that was supposed to create ?
Sorry to get political but this just pisses ME OFF !!:apple:

just more lies by the Corporate world, to hide the main reason, take jobs overseas to pad the bottom line! What these folks realise is, If Americans dont have jobs with a living wage, who is going to buy these $2000 refrigerators, no one making $7.00/hr, thats assuming they even care. When the last drop is bled from the American corpse, they won't evn bother to bury us, they will just move on, and leave us to rot, and wonder what happened. America, welcome to the third world!:(

^^ your not the only one. I can't believe someone thought that NAFTA was supposed to create jobs in the USA.

Or any other "free trade" program, based on empirical evidence to date. As with the notion that "tax cuts create jobs", "NAFTA will bring jobs here" seems a bit of a "oops, we guessed wrong" situation. :(

The jobs? See the data for yourself:
http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/surveymost?bls

I'm sure someone has tried to disentangle the NAFTA effect somewhere, but there is certainly no net loss of jobs in the data because of it. Ross Perot's "sucking sound" never happened.

If unemployment figures can be made into fuzzy math, any figure can be.

Besides, replacing math-related jobs, science-related jobs, or any other jobs with burger flipping fluff isn't going to do much except make unemployment numbers look better...

I don't think people who don't have jobs currently(or are under employed) would turn down this offer if the wages were decent, and thats where the issue comes up.

Its like McCain saying the reason illegal immigrants pick tomatoes was because no one wanted to do the work, regardless of price. If you could promise me millions of dollars per year, I'd be out there picking tomatoes. Of course, thats not do able.

Silly, maybe Canada and the U.S. one day (which I highly doubt), but Americans are far too xenophobic to allow Mexico to join up with them.

I think McCain used the term "Americans wouldn't pick lettuce for even $50/hr".

I'd pick lettuce for $50/hr. Pays more than the job I'm doing now and would be good exercise, too. Maybe even for $40/hr; I'm not a CEO that will drive a company into the ground just so I could get fired with a $20 million severance package because I know that $20 mil will last me four or five lifetimes...

And considering he voted against repealing the law that gives corporations tax money to offshore jobs in 2005 (source: http://www.ontheissues.org), he's not very credible when it comes to anything to do regarding jobs.

Americans won't get paid penny's for a days work, the coast of living is too much now a days. Even if u take out all the emadities that we have today Internet, cable, nice cars it's not enuf unless u have a good paying career. If it were possible to have an iPhone made here it would coast a lot to pay the people unless it was made by machine, in witch it wouldent solve anything.
