In my book this is nitpicking and not telling the complete story.

Many many times I am reading a printed version of a magazine and the pages stick together. It takes far longer than 3-5 seconds to solve that problem.

I don't even know what to say to this, other than "I do not have this problem with my magazines."

I over 50 and remember when computers took minutes to render a basic PDF file. Thus I have little patience for someone who says that waiting 3-5 seconds to render a full graphic page is intolerable.

Saying that things used to be worse is not a valid defense of modern technology. I'm over 30 and have been using computers since the early 80s, and I expect technology to scale with the times.

That said, I am also not criticizing anyone for being willing to put up with very slow loading times of what are essentially just images--so a little respect the other direction would be cool.

Your times are correct and it is a bit annoying.

HOWEVER,

In my book this is nitpicking and not telling the complete story.

Many many times I am reading a printed version of a magazine and the pages stick together. It takes far longer than 3-5 seconds to solve that problem.

Many magazines (Popular Photography) still split articles and place the ending at the end of the magazine. I have spent minutes (not seconds) finding the end of the article while reading the printed edition. Missing page numbers makes it very hard to find. In Zinio you press "Text" and read the whole article.

On balance it is faster on the iPad.

Would I like Zinio to work like the Popular Science edition? A big yes!

However, I can easily live with Zinio today for what it gives me.

Can I have some of whatever you're smoking.

lol...likewise! If you can't wait a couple of seconds for a page to render...why are you even on the internet?

You must be freaking out every time you load a site and its not *instant*

Zinio is too slow for my liking!!

I agree, magazines should be in the ibook store, the whole iPad apps thing is already a mess Apple!! Whoever is in charge of the iTunes / App store needs replacing or put on an organisation course!!!

Exactly my thoughts. In it's current state, Zinio is a slow and buggy mess. I will not commit to a subscription unless it improves drastically.

Same here. I've been using Zinio for the last 3 years or so, and I think their subscription prices are great.

I only stumbled on Zinio yesterday and so far I'm really impressed.

Subscribed to US Esquire for just 8 dollars which is insane. It costs more than that for one issue in WH Smith!

I honestly can't say I find anything irritating about the app so far.

I don't really get this. Are people actually threatened by the fact that other people find Zinio's slowness to be unacceptable? Just because I don't like it shouldn't affect anyone else's enjoyment.

I can assure you 90% of the websites I use load 'instantly' compared to a single page load in Zinio.

Again, there is no 'right' or 'wrong' here, there are just people who are willing to put up with it and people who aren't. The only reason I'm still in this thread is that I'm trying to find out if my extremely long page renders are the norm.

Takes Zinio about 8 seconds to load and then its 2-3 seconds for each page to come into focus...thats my experience!

Zinio's page load times are perfectly acceptable and understandable to me. These are high quality images, that load a low quality preview image so that pages can be flipped quickly.

I'm sure the app will mature and page turns may even get quicker.

Just launched the app. After update it took exactly 2 seconds for each page to load fully.

Zinio's page turns don't bother me too much. It's just the menu and library is quite flakey.

The page load time doesn't bother me either. Better Zinio than nothing at all... And I rather have one app with magazines in it, than one app for every one magazine I download on the App Store.

The folders in OS 4.0 would help organizing the magazines, but I agree, I also prefer to have all magazines accessible through 1 icon. Sort of like iTunes for magazines.

If the highres downloadable versions are perfectly readable with fast pageturns ingoodreader, why'd i get à paid zinioversion of the same mag? In other words, if zinio wants to fight the torrent versions, better provide us with an app that works fast and beautifully, like iBooks.

I like Good Reader too, but the page turns aren't exactly instant there either.

I would like something that provides a consistent interface for the presentation of magazine content. I think Apple should work on this, since they are the most well-equipped to come up with something that will be good. Otherwise, we're just ending up with a bunch of inconsistent, craptastic magazine apps.

I would rather not look at a garbled mess everytime the page is swiped. It definitely takes you out of the magazine like experience.

Also the internet experience, the wait is caused by the downloading of data, if you have the page in cache it loads instantly. This is just a bunch of sequential pictures. Do they not know you're going to go to the next page. Preload that mofo!

The entire magazine is downloaded and stored, granted I wouldn't mind if it was doing it whilst downloading but it still happens after the download is finished. I would even prefer to remain on the same page until the full page is loaded properly into memory. I browse the thumbs on the bottom and that stays on the same page until it is fully loaded.

Swiping should be taken out if they stick with the current implementation, it just feels wrong ... to swipe and then to wait. Thumbing through a magazine, quickly browsing page after page becomes a chore. Very un-magazine like.

Check out the new Zinio update!

Page rendering speed has greatly increased.

Nice job!

You know, i cant remember the last time i bought a magazine . I think its a dying medium, digital versions or not. By the time they're been published all their "News" is old news. At least newspapers are relatively up to date.

For magazine type content... there's always a website that will be much more up to date.

I agree. Due to this update, I'm now a Zinio user! Great stuff.

Seconded... I hope people realize and read through this entire thread. Obviously it was sketchy in performance the first few DAYS it was out but people jump on the "it'll always suck" mentality. With the update it's fast, clear, and just works great. I don't like the browsing features still, but I will expect it will get better. The actual reading experience is quite a way to demonstrate the utility of the device and is the perfect thing for plane flights when I have no wi-fi or 3g access.

Not to mention traveling with multiple magazines and back issues without having to take a thick stack of magazines. :)

BTW - love your user name. I have a Les Paul Studio in alpine white. :)
