So what's everyone doing with their new ipad pro 2020 (if ordered now) until the Magic keyboard releases? Are you shelling out for standard keyboard cover to tide you over? I've considered this and would sell it once Magic keyboard releases but that's going to be at least a £50-£80 loss.

I really want to order a 12.9" now, especially after passing on the 2018 bendy model - but without the magic keyboard, it's not going to work out. At the very least I gotta have a case to protect it. Guess I'm gonna have to do the grown-up thing and wait a few months longer......😞

I always like to have a separate smart cover for times where I jsut want the slimness of it without the keyboard. so I just got the 12.9 cover and I will juse that and a extra magic keyboard seperate until the new magic cover thing comes out.

Can you fold this back or do you have to disconnect it and leave it behind when you want to view in portrait or landscape holding with two hands? And will the keyboard pop up on the iPad if it does fold back.
It doesnt seem to fold back so portrait mode means this is more a dock than a case and when youre disconnected then you’re now carrying your iPad unprotected.

Surprisingly that doesnt seem to bother anyone. But for me then I like having the protection and convenience of having the keyboard case on at all times.

There aren't any covers anymore for the 12.9 Pro. There are folios and keyboard folios. The folio is not a proper replacement for the smartcovers of the previous gens.

Anyone know if Apple will release a magic keyboard that will fit the smallest camera size of ipad pro 2018? (based on previous experiences -unknown to me-) or if, on the contrary, all users of an ipad pro 2018 who want a magic keyboard should go with a gap in the part of the camera.

It's anybody's guess right now but it would not surprise me if they didn't release one.

the folio does the same thing, it covers the front and back of the ipad (the smart cover only covered the front) , give 2 viewing angles etc the only thing is its more expensive. otherwise you can get a cheaper 3rd party one on Amazon to achieve the same thing

I was in the same boat but I have no intention of getting the smart keyboard and then trying to sell it when I get the magic one

Theres no way Apple releases a new magic keyboard specifically for a “two” year old iPad. Especially since Apple is openly advertising the magic keyboard as backward compatible with the 2018 pros. Remind me if I’m wrong and I’ll eat my hat. :). That little camera gap isn’t going to be any issue.

I’m wondering about the material the Magic Keyboard is made out of. For $349 I sure hope the outside material is better than the previous ASK.

Probably buying for my 12.9, but grudgingly, and even though only once I see how it does/does not fold in various positions.

This is interesting, from Apple's site:

What's interesting about the promotional material they've already released and been covered elsewhere?

In the newest videos it's interesting how they position the case as a home stand of some sort, where people just take the ipad & go. Only in the beginning & end do they treat it as a case.

The problem with the new iPad & the now standard case is the camera cutout. I haven't seen a lot of listings yet for new cases with the new camera array.

Perhaps not everyone has seen that prior coverage?

one would really hope since the material on the folio , keyboard or smart one kind of sucks and wears much quicker.

Sorry to disagree but no, the folio DOESN'T do the same thing. There are some of us who simply want the front covered. There is no option for us. The folio adds unwanted bulk and weight (albeit slight).

One thing I’ve noticed is that none of the promotional pictures show anyone using the IPad Magic Keyboard on their laps.

From what everyone can see does it look like it would be stable OR a bit top heavy? I rarely use my iPad or my laptop on a desk anymore unfortunately.

Another observation is that the same people using a Magic Keyboard are also shown later NOT using it. This doesnt fold back like the Smart Keyboard so.... where did they put their Magic Keyboard? Are they now carrying around an unprotected 12.9 iPad AND a separate unattached 12.9” keyboard case in their purse?

Anyway, I know its a quick cut Apple commercial but it did raise some questions for me regarding weight, hinge and (in)convenience.

Notable Timecodes:
0:13 - student typing on lap. Seems rigid but you can see some bounce
0:18 - student detaches, lies down and leaves Keyboard unattended
0:31 - furious artist chucks iPad (a warning to not buy used)
0:44 - didnt realize how silly 12.9 looks in public
0:49 - teen signs e-divorce in cab (I’ve seen that look before)
0:51 - typing on lap but not showing screen stability or touch response
1:14 - lying in bed with stand
1:19 - lady using in tub (another warning to not buy used)
1:20 - holds down base to disconnect
1:24 - great shot of how thin that hinge is

I do want this so badly but the more I think about it the more it seems, unlike the Smart Cover, this is meant to be a dock first and then a case.

I am planning on getting the new magic keyboard, principally because I have long wanted a backlit keyboard to use on dark air flights, or living room sofa with the lights dimmed when the wife is watching TV. It does not worry me that the new magic keyboard appears will not fold back, as already when using my iPad Pro as a tablet I remove from the keyboard case - don’t like the feel of the keys on the back and can’t take photos with it folded back.

I have long since taken out Apple care for my iPad and iPhone and use naked - not worrying with a case to protect - and have so far not damaged either. It is enjoyable feeling how thin is the 2018 iPad Pro - an incredible device.
