Yeah that would be nice to sit at home and have someone walk me through some of the differences w/ Windows. I doubt I would be lugging in a 27in iMac into the Apple store! We shall see!

That's a damn shame they downgraded the SSD portion on the 1TB drive as that would be perfect for my use.

The personal set up is an interactive online session, so there would be no need to haul your iMac anywhere, you can do it from home

So, if I understand this correctly, if I plug the speakers into this jack, I will lose the ability to use headphones since this jack is now in use? Not a huge deal, just wanting to make sure I am thinking correctly.

I don't know if this will help but I've been using a cheap USB sound card attached to my 2011 iMac (Snow Leopard) for my 2.1 Speakers. It has a 3.5mm output socket which I leave the speakers plugged into. This frees up the socket on the Mac for headphones if/when required. One thing I like about this method is that I can quickly 'alt' click the speaker/volume icon in my menu bar and swap back to internal speakers when I want to without having to constantly unplug/replug the speakers. Again I don't know if this will help but it might work in your situation too.

Is it not uncomfortable for your hand to not be resting on a mouse? That's the only potential issue I can see.

When you buy an iMac, do you know if Apple will swap out the mouse for the trackpad or is that a no go, since I believe the trackpad is a bit more pricey.
The track pad is comfortable the bottom pad of your hand rests on the table enabling your fingers to use the pad , I actually find moving a mouse around less comfortable its what you are used to , I find gestures on the mouse less easy than on the track pad . You may be able to borrow a track pad to try it out .
