All the reports I've read have been about the orginal design - haven't read any issues about the newer ones on Macintouch, who are pretty good at this kind of thing. Even appledefects declared itself "pleased" with the new design.. although it did add "only time will tell" if there will be no more problems.

I'm sure if anyone knows different, they'll pipe up!
 
Can you post pictures of the revised version?

If it's the version I think you're talking about (and the one that's connected to my Mac right now) I have my doubts it will do anything. The "strain relief" consists of about a centimeter of an extra layer of thick plastic tubing that's uniformly stiff and doesn't give way much on its own. If anything, all it will likely do is extend the cable's break point by about 1cm.
I did notice this on my 4 day old macbook the other ones were different....
