What good is magsafe for other than ruining my mechanical watches. My Omega's will be fine. But my other watches? Probably not. Seriously. You cannot set your phone on a charger correctly? Why carry a credit card on your phone when you have Apple pay?

I think it will be cool for car mounts, magnetically attach easy and charge and easy pop off when leaving.
If you accidentally put a credit card in your pocket alongside the back of the iPhone 12, would it demagnetise it maybe?
I think this is more about preparing us for a port-less phone. I was telling someone how can they remove the charging port, which is rumored to happen if not next year the year after when most people use their phone for CarPlay. I guess this product answers the question.

This is exactly the use case I’m excited about. I have Schosche Magnetic mounts in my classic cars (because I can’t install Carplay and need the Nav) and it’s been a frustrating trade-off losing the wireless charging capability due to the metal plate stuck to the back of my phone. I’m excited at the idea of having a magnetic mount with charging built in to de-clutter my dash.
I am certain we will see a rich ecosystem of MagSafe technologies evolve from this announcement today. I am excited like I've never been excited before.
Yes it can magnetise the movement, making it run fast or not at all. Can be demagnetized simple enough. But yes, it can mess up your watch.
You could always just not use it
It seems unlikely the mag will be strong enough to harm your watch from inches away...OR it's a ploy to get you to buy an Apple Watch.
Well wallets aren’t only used for things that can be added to Apple Pay like drivers licenses and IDs.

Wouldn't your phone have to be really close to your watch for this to matter? do you use the phone with your watch hand regularly or something?

Do we even know if the phones themselves have magnets? They might just have metal plates, with the magnets in the charger/cases.
Magnets in the phone itself presents some problems: demagnetizing credit cards and drivers licenses, and being unsuitable for anyone with implanted devices like pacemakers.

The magnet is in the back of the phone, is it not? I already have a Apple watch. If it has a strong enough magnet, it can.You could always just not use it
Well since the magsafe wallet can carry whatever you want, I miss your point. They did advertise credit cards, your ID, and most cards are already available on a app or Apple pay. It's late 2020, get with the program.
And millions of people own mechanical watches. It's not like a small minority own them. Leave your Apple bubble world and maybe you would realize that. 🤪
Really. You have a better watch? Omega's are a-magnetic. Immune to magnetism. The Co-axial 8900 caliber is resistant to over 15000 gauss. Most of any watch of any manufacturer. It's the most resistant watch on the planet.My VC Overseas is a-magnetic as well. My other watches are not. All high end.
What watch do you own that is not affected? Can't wait to hear it. As Rolex, AP, GS, and other watches that can't come close to Omega on the resistance front likely could be affected.
