After over 23 years with Apple I’m seriously considering leaving.
Er, ok. Not an airport, don't have to announce departures here.
They have lost sight of their original mission since TC in charge - it’s continual disappointment.
So you've endured continual disappointment for, oh, 13 of the 23 years you've been with Apple? And now you've decided they've changed the mission?
The mail app has always been been poor but now this.
Wow! You've put up with an "...always been poor..." mail app for almost a quarter of a century. That's endurance!
Apple AI - either do it properly or don’t bother, what a complete and utter piece of garbage🗑️.
Yeah, it isn't there yet. Don't have to enable it though, and you paid nothing for it so far.
My iPad Pro not that exciting and apps continually lose their screen settings/UI (mail being the worst culprit).
Do tech items usually excite you? That's not the effect I've ever had from any tech device ever. But YMMV. My two iPhones, two iPads, and one iMac only change screen settings when I update the OS and something is modified. I never have settings change otherwise unless I'm the one changing them. Something's not right here.
And not producing a larger iMac when the demand and expectation for one was clearly evident for months and months
Yeah, I certainly wanted, and still want, a 27" iMac. I'm confident it isn't going to happen so grousing about it is the only outlet we have. But that grows tiresome at this point five years after the last 2020 27" iMac.
was a huge mistake. I was forced into the 24 iMac and it is the most underwhelming experience I have had with any Apple product.
Forced? I don't think so. Used 27" iMacs are still available on eBay/others. Apple's only All-In-One today is the 24" iMac if you have to have an AIO but there are other vendor options. And if you want Apple (doubt that you do though) and get a 27" non-AIO computer, that's available as well. I can't forecast what your level of excitement will be however.

Lots and lots of rambling thoughts here. What is your workflow and AIO needs that the 24" iMac is so underwhelming at doing?

Good points and echo your comments. I'll take it a step further and say Mac mini combined with 27 inch monitor? Granted the iMacs have nice displays but Dell, HP, LG and the Apple Display are all great displays! Currently I have a 14 MBP with a 27 Dell 27 at work and the LG 27 at home. Work is fluid and seamless.

For now, those Mail categories across devices is useless in this beta. I've not looked specifically at iPad, but on the Mac at least it sorts stuff into different categories than on the iPhone making it hard to remember where stuff is. Also, the last category is just a list of mails where on iOS they're grouped, e.g. 3 mails from Netflix are one entry on iPhone, but 3 entries on Mac.

I'm looking forward to 18.4 to bring unity to it all. I wish they did this to begin with. I agree, it's not perfect and that's why it's still in Beta. Although gmail is more accurate due to their lead time on it (years, lol), I do like Apple's slightly better along with no ads. I'd like a customization option vs all or nothing when something gets misclassified. I do like the combined/grouped emails.

It puts it in two if it determines it to be an important one.

Also, I don't like when you restore after deleting, it puts it into the inbox vs the original category like google does.

Finally, like other providers, they need to have all features and settings across the mail apps. iPhone/iPad are the same but MacOS mail is slightly different. I'm glad iCloud rules are now synced but you still don't get them in MacOs.

One of my favorite features of Gmail is the ability to “file” an email into multiple “folders” or “labels”. This is especially useful if a single email would fit in more than one specific folder and instead of deciding which is the best fit, I just use all of the labels that fit and remove the “inbox” label. This is a system that works very well for me and is lacking in Outlook and has been lacking in in Apple Mail. It would be great to see it in Apple Mail.

Yes to this! I love labels. I switched to gmail about 10 years ago from Outlook due to Apple Support. Microsoft was very lacking back then unlike now, where they are great. Labels was one of those I never knew I needed, wanted or liked until I had it. It's one of the reasons that I've continued to stay for this long outside of reliability. I would really miss labels and would love to see it in Apple Mail. I used to be a "folder" guy until I got introduced to "labels".

The other thing I like about gmail/google calendar is the auto calendar creation for appointments, flights, etc. It's like having a personal assistant.
