Same, my bug report was also a duplicate but my speculation is that Apple is working on sync for faces in the next major versions of macOS and iOS so my guess is that a fix for this issue is wrapped up as part of that.

That makes sense to me. Face syncing is a must and they will be doing it. Having separate Faces on different devices is just bad. I hope they do fix it though. All of my Faces over a decade I've manually fixed would be terrible to lose.

There may be some progress as my bug report status was changed to closed yesterday. Unfortunately, my report was a duplicate so I can't actually see what the resolution was in the original bug report.

Has anyone tried this on 10.13?

Faces got a big upgrade in 10.13 with sync across devices. I really hope Apple fixed this bug. I spent a lot of time updating Faces of all of my pictures. Losing all of this work will be really frustrating.

I don't plan on trying any of the developer previews but at least we did get face synching. Now we just need to know for sure that our gray thumbnails are gone...

Who's testing?

If anyone can post results, that would be great.

If I add my iCloud Photo library to High Sierra, does it upgrade to prevent me from being able to use it on Sierra? Or do I just copy over the source file and put it in High Sierra without using iCloud Photo Library?

It will more than likely upgraded the photo library making it no longer compatible with Sierra but if you use a duplicate copy of your library and don't turn on iCloud Photo Library that should be a good test for the thumbnail issue.

Got it, thanks. I'll sign out of iCloud and put in a duplicate copy.

I tested and I don't have the issue, but it's because I do not see a + button to add any faces through the "People" section. I'm also seeing these features missing:
-Setting a key photo
-You cannot click X on a face if it is auto detected
-There is no way to check faces manually except for adding additional faces that already exist

Seems like a step back to me.
