Well, people these days do tend to toss in all the tricks into a single basket -- even though it is something that will wear well for only a short amount of time before it gets tiring.

I've always liked simplicity that will last ... I'd rather have a boring old square pool with rich materials and surrounds that looks like a classic resort pool than some of the distracting crap I see these days being installed for big bucks that'll look dated rather quick.

But guess what people ooh and drool over, and these are the same people making choices on your work. Sort of scary.

Wow this thread is really uplifting for someone like me who is about to go to college to do graphic design and hopefully be a designer, I never thought Clients would be such a problem. Well I now know what to expect for the future and that it wont be a wonderful life designing all day.

I wouldn't let it be completely disheartening.
...this is very well put.
It sometimes forces a more creative process. Sometimes, they actually do have good ideas :)

It's this fostering of ideas and sync with your client that you can sometimes achieve that makes everything worthwhile...of course there will be days that you wonder whether the grass is greener on the other side (this is something that every person in their career while go through).

If you love what you do, you can let the negative aspects slide because everything else overshadows them.

I'm entering my third year now, and it's good to learn to deal with it as soon as possible. I came to the realization of just how much of a pain dealing with them can be this last year. It's good to try and work on projects and work with people early on, it's just as beneficial as working on design. Being a great designer is one thing, but you also have to be able to work with your clients, and not letting them drive you crazy is a key aspect of that. Hopefully many of you professionals would agree.
