How can he recommend the 17 instead of the 17 pro
I’m guessing to gave the reasons why in the video, did he not? I don’t plan on giving him more ad revenue or clicks but if you wanted to list the reasons out feel free to do so.

While the 17 is a nice value proposition this year, I wanted the biggest sized screen (6.9”) and so there’s only one option for that. Not to mention that the battery is bigger, the RAM is 12 gb instead of 8 gb, telephoto camera, etc.

Yep, that was before it became this bluntly obvious how much overhead there seems to be for on-device AI on iDevices and Macs. You'd think Apple would find a way of sorting it out for 8GB, especially if they can manage to do it in 1GB on a watch if the math co-processor ("neural engine") is good enough. But that might require them to admit that even 13 series iPhones or so are "good enough", and with how well they still seem to handle everything EXCEPT Siri, that might be dangerous for the bottom line.

Recommened 16 over 16 Pro since 16 got 8GB RAM and many people don't need the third camera len.

Recommened 17 over 17 Pro since 17 got ProMotion display and many people don't need the third camera len.

Uggh this again?
There’s only two features that 8 GB of RAM devices are missing out on at this point, and neither of them are necessarily functional, just improvements.
1: The new expressive voice.
2: The new on-device dictation model.

That’s it! Nothing more. It’s not like having the 12 GB of RAM, all of a sudden unlock some special version of Siri that functions any differently.
I have both an 8 GB of RAM iPad and a 12 GB of RAM iPhone, I promise you, other than the voice, the Siri 27 on both of them is absolutely identical. You ask either of them a question and you get the exact same answer on both.
This might change in future versions, like iOS 28, but at that point the iPhone 17 will be two years old. At that point, it’s going to be missing out on features newer phones get anyway.

I don't watch these sorts of videos. but I'd say the iPhone 17 is probably the best phone for most people that need a new phone

unless you really need the extra camera of the pro or want the modern form factor of the air

IF every single person that follows them watched this video and then bought whichever phone that was recommended, that would account for about 1.22% of annual smartphone sales

I thought he was referring to YouTube revenue. But I probably misread that, now that I've gone back and read that whole thread again.

If whatever phone you are using currently is not up to the mark for the basic stuff then get the iPhone 17.

If you do heavy multitasking or camera usage is on heavy side especially if you zoom a lot then get the Pro iPhone.

Decide for Size and Storage depending on the need from 256GB to 2TB. Color is a personal choice.

If possible you can wait as well for the new launches in September. And if you don't like the new iPhones then get the 17 series with discount at that time.

He gets a lot of views but no one really listens to him or takes his opinions seriously.

I certainly didn’t.
Considering he's had many features and fairly considerable awards for his content, together with (medium to) high engagement on surveying and usual content I certainly think many people listen to him.
To say many people spend time watching his content but are then not considering it after that is already a contradiction.
I'm not a fan of his or his other ventures, but you sound like you have a personal problem with him and that's unfortunate but why spread your disdain instead of something worthwhile?
