Mavericks killed my Mac Pro

I'm thinking that Mavericks is a good candidate for the death of older Macbooks.

Upgrade caused TXT screen of death on 2013 MacbookRetina.
I'm now in the process of "reinstalling" Mavericks from the recovery partitiion, because running repair failed to fix the problem. The download for the "reinstall" looks like it is going to run 6 hours plus. I had a similar problem the last time there was a major upgrade, only then I was using a 2011 Retina.
