And tons of great tips here: http://www.lynda.com/home/ViewCourses.aspx?lpk0=67

Frak Yeah! You were dead right Badger! Found this on the Rumor threads.

So I went to system preferences -> network -> ethernet -> advanced -> ethernet .. and changed the "automatic" setting to the following:

Configure: Manually
Speed: 100baseTx
Duplex: full duplex
MTU: Standard (1500)

This worked for me, and the wireless and direct-to-modem internet is screaming.
Screaming is right! I'm in business now baby! It was the FULL DUPLEX setting. No idea what it means but it works now! ;)

To the best of my knowledge, it is not even available outside the iMac.

not to my knowledge either but lots of flicker and tinge problems with this screens ,

and there are alternatives sold as barebones with 27" screen , amd processor boards , and quiet cheap from a company called OPTRONIX
i still after years could not find the manufacturers website but these things sell on ebay and have happy customers and they are upgradeable so you can get a equally fast processor and amd`s are easier and better to overclock then intels
just a example i found for sale used
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Optronix-Windows-Media-Center-27-LCD-PCTV-MCE_W0QQitemZ140368873498QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_DesktopPCs?hash=item20aea3081a

so as a windows user you got plenty of choice , but people like me for example who want osx and hate windows can only buy mac`s
