Only the absoute Cremé de la cremé of LCD TVs don't suffer from LCD backlight unevenness in one form or another, namely B&O and Loewe (although even Loewe themselves havn't been using the best quality displays recently).

I remember an apple store person talking about this issue, actually. I'm almost positive he told me that the color shift was a bi-product of the glossy screens (not to mention viewing angle). Honeslty, I don't know if that's where the problem stems, but it's lit from the bottom, so I assume this is normal.

Honestly, I would take it to the apple store to compare it to other macbooks if possible. If it looks like the others do, then you don't have a valid complaint.

Mine is the same, as are the others I have seen here - it is just that Apple didn't use the best monitors in the world for these Macbooks, nothing to worry about though, it happens a lot on laptops as the light source is at the bottom. Best to forget about it as it isn't even an issue most of the time (eg when surfing the net) anyway.
