1)LARGER and BETTER QUALITY SCREEN!!!
2)better speakers...even though they still havent incorporated bose speakers into apple laptops (my dream), the MBP has much better sound quality!
3)backlit keyboard on MBP is VERY PRETTY... but I don't need it and NEVER use it.
4)I hate that there is a more than 1-inch thick ugly plastic frame around the MB screen..makes it look smaller and cheap.
5)MBP gets hotter..fans are awful unless you download a program that controls the fans and keeps them on high all the time.
6)MB battery is much better when you have no outlet, but it does have a shorter lifespan (as I've seen in many of my friend's MBs)
7)If you can get either a MB or a MBP....then why are you even asking.

What about WIFI reception?

I'll be faced with the same choice of MB vs. MBP. I've seen numerous comments about the MBP's weaker WIFI signal vs. the MB. This would be a major issue for me and could swing the decision in favor of the MB.

Any comments about WIFI?

I own a first gen MB (1.86ghz CD, 2gb) and a last gen MBP (2.2ghz, 4gb)

Hi all

1. Noise-level?
2. Heat?
3. Battery life?
4. Screen quality?
5. Case strength?

1, the MB makes far more noise, MBP's is 99,9% of the time quit. MB fans kicks in early and especially they make SO much noise, MB @ 6200 rpm makes far more noise than the MBP @ 6000 rpm.

2, MB run's hotter, seems to have all it's heat concentrated at 1 place, MBP's heat is more spread and therefore you can better use it as a laptop without burning yourself.

3, About the same, MBP seems to have somewhat longer battery. (+/- 30 minutes), both new batteries (MB battery died).

4, Screen angle at the MBP is soo much better, actually MB's screen just sucks in screen angle, however the MBP's screen looks somewhat yellow if you look from the side.

5, Not so much experience, MB's case is a little bit damaged after a curve in the car (whoops). MBP's is still intact, but brand-new ;)

Ram seems to speed-up the MB a lot, after the 1 gb => 2 gb upgrade everything was more responsive. So i recommend that upgrade if you go for the MB.

Edit: wifi, seems to be better at the MB. but this only helps in being able to detect very weak signals.

Also, the MB has a slightly lower resolution, although if the MB's resolution is way too low for you, chances are that the 15" MBP's screen is also inadequate for you, resolution wise.
Speaking of resolution and screen size...

Let's say there's a MB and MBP side by side, and both are on the same web page. On which machine will the text appear larger?

For me, it's because I prefer the size of the MB -- but I'm tempted by the extras of the MBP.

If the MBP came in a smaller size, the choice would be easy. But it doesn't. :(

Oh, one more question:

Does a MBP fit (comfortably) on a plane's tray table? Or not?

I'm guessing that a MB would probably fit okay, right?

hmm first class, business class or economy ? :D

but definitely saves more space in a bag pack.

Have to agree about better overall responsiveness from the MBP VS MB (with 1 GB ram) and yes once the touchpad on the macbook starts wearing down, it becomes less responsive and a bit harder to use. About the image quality on the screen, the first time I played a dvd resoultion video on the macbook, it looked really poor and pixelated, even compared to my four year old toshiba laptop. The same video on my MBP looked incredibly good, better in some aspects then my apple studio display. Also I spent a lot of time moving the screen hinge on my macbook forwards and back because of the poor viewing angle, whereas I barely have to do this with my MBP.

Also, I spent a few hours in an apple store using a macbook and I didn't notice any of these things until I took it home. Again, the MB is a good notebook and I'd be fine using it, it's just that the MBP is so much better!

just settling into my Blackbook

i am still new to the mac... so i can only add a little to the thread-

I had the new MBP. Loved it, but had to send back due to a few display issues. Yellowing, dead pixel and odd pattern color flash (like a bad GPU kinda thing). My patience got the best of my and I canceled my MBP replacement and opted for a refund.

I in turn bought a pumped up Blackbook from the Apple store. I have always been preferential to all things black - pretty much a hater of the silver cell phone era! I loved my black Star Tac. but i Digress...

It is really up to what you like. They have definately set it so you have to pick... i would love to see a smaller MBP. I would also love to see the Blackbook with discrete graphics and LED backlighting.

Ouch. Not good!

So, taking color out of the equation, which one do you prefer overall?

If you were buying today, fresh, which would you buy, and why?

You could hash it out

But it is really what you want.

I would probably buy the Blackbook. It is fast. It does everything I need it to do- well. I didnt have a lot of time to play with my MBP, but it seemed to have a slightly brighter screen (which i turned down anyway during use). However, I did have it long enough to say that the blackbook has significantly better battery life (at least form my usage application/style).

Trust me though... I realize that the decision is tough. I love my choice, but it is not without a few longing sighs for my MBP. Like I said- make a smaller MBP - maybe annodized black... and I am there! For now the MAcbook does what I need- and then some- with the footprint and color i like!
