These terms are specific to your USAA card, here's the terms for the warranty that would apply to the majority of people here
https://www212.americanexpress.com/...toid=d13cbc0508bdf210VgnVCM40000037b3ad94RCRD

Here's the exhaustive PDF that answers the other questions
https://www.onlineclaim.americanexpress.com/pdf/EW-IND-OSBN1-07-07.pdf

Happy reading. Unless your card has different terms than what I've just posted, you're incorrect on all points, but your card very well may have the terms you highlighted for you.

Did you happen to read number 11 of "Purchases not covered" in the PDF you just posted?

"11. additional service contract or extended warranty coverage for a computer, computer component or part that You buy which already comes with an original United States of America manufacturer’s warranty, unless such coverage is provided and administered
by the original manufacturer."

And your point?

And your point?

My point is that it doesn't mention that you have to exhaust all other means of getting insurance/warranty coverage.

But yes, you are right that the benefits are different for those who have an AMEX card exclusively through AMEX themselves than through another bank.

I thought the apple premium was becasue they offer premium products, how come so many ppl have had to make applecare claims, shouldnt the product be well built when you buy it since it costs so much.

Lamborghinis break down too you know :)

My point is that it doesn't mention that you have to exhaust all other means of getting insurance/warranty coverage.

It mentions this in a few places, but in reality, all this really means is if you're submitting a claim when you're covered by, say an extended warranty like SquareTrade and AMEX, AMEX wants you to go to ST first.

Page 1, 1st para
The coverage provided under this benefit is EXCESS of other sources of indemnity.

Page 4, 4th para
If other insurance is available to You which provides the same or similar coverage as that provided by this Policy, this Policy becomes excess and We will pay only that portion of the Covered Incident benefit which is not reimbursed by other insurance up to Our limits, as provided under the Description of Benefits section.

Read the posts from smb12 (near top) and Autumn09 (middle) to for further clarity on why AMEX + AppleCare = 4 years.

I see what you are saying now... that you exhaust the other extended warranties you ALREADY have...

I may be looking into getting an AMEX straight from them in the near future... But it would be hard to swallow the annual premium I would probably have to pay when I dont have to pay one with USAA.

1) Kudos for the funny post choices.

2) Yes. You get a free year so what I'm planning on doing is just waiting 11 months from purchase, then buying the Apple care then OR asking for one this christmas.

As someone who has a backup in TM and has been using a macbook from 2007, peace of mind knowing a failed SSD or internal will be replaced is good enough for me. Especially being able to get a new battery as the stock one degrades over a few years.

Ah how ignorant you are :) Life is good isn't it? But Macs are great, I'm pretty sure you'll love yours.

But in relation to that argument, you missed the point. And if you think that you're buying performance in a Lambo, you only know 1/4th of it. I'm sure every single one of those is built/put together by hand? Hand stitched seats, everything. Performance is like, 3rd on the list as to why people buy them.

To get technical, it's an all wheel drive car, you'll FEEL more "power" in a Ferrari or something that's rear wheeled. IMO of course.

Lifes good actually, and sorry but apple doesnt put more care into manufacturing their laptops than other companies. Nor are their laptops more powerful, their supposed to be better design, and better quality. Key word "supposed"

If i wanted to feel the power I would go for an all-wheel drive car (for example the Nissan GTR, or Bugatti Veyron) dont get as much wheel spin as the power is distributed better. But maybe the feel of a rear-wheel car is more exciting...anyways enough about cars...

Yeah im hoping the move to Mac will be a good one, one of my friends just did it and seems very pleased. Im mostly looking forward to the move to SSD, have had 3 HDDs crash on me in the past couple of years.

On that power note, you should watch the Top Gear section with the Mclaren. He touches on this subject for a few minutes or so.

Here's the link http://www.streetfire.net/video/top-gear-season-17x03_2282461.htm

But yea, I definitely think they put more care into their products. You don't think so? For one it's made of aluminum; that gives it more durability/stability while allowing the machine to feel solid and be lighter as well. But I mean they're made to look nice; Thinkpads are built just as good and are more durable if you want to go that route, but they don't really catch the basic consumer's eye.
