In my case I use it for CAD. I'm not sure if the op will use it for that just trying to make a point, and we might not use it all the time in school but WE DO CARRY IT ALL THE TIME!!! Also by CAD I mean very light solidworks 7 work. (my schools cheap! All the computers we have are 4yrs old hp workstations with single core athlons!)

Man I must be getting old.

Anyways, an MBA would be a downgrade if the OP uses it for CAD. I see several problems with bringing a laptop to high school daily, the most important being necessity and potential for theft.

And your school is not cheap. Probably cannot afford to buy computers in the first place...be thankful for what you have. Goodness!

Yes theft is always a problem. My backpack never leaves my sight and a therefore my
MBA never does. If the op uses it for CAD it would be a downgrade. For me it was an upgrade from my old pro (9400m vs 320m).

OP, I'm a junior in high school and have not needed to bring mine to school ONCE. Don't waste your money. If you want to buy an MBA, fine, just don't try and use school to justify it.

I just bought a new macbook pro. I was thinking of getting a MBA 4gb 128gb 11 inch for high school. Would the macbook air be powerful enough or would I need a 13 inch. Or would I be fine with the pro and save my money.

Your in High School. You [edit:your parents] bought a brand new MBP. And now you want a new MBA?

Does the world need more spoiled high-schoolers? Your parents suck. You suck. I am jealous. You are young. You need a typewriter. It is high school.

Or be a jerk and make your parents spend $3500 on your laptops that you "need" for "school."

I apologize for this rant. But this is ridiculous. Do you go to high school at NASA?

Stick to the MBP.

The only reason or benefit of having an MBA is so you have a slightly lighter backpack and you can show it off (but anyone with some knowledge of the Mac hierarchy will know you have bought a lesser-model for image sake).

There's no other benefit based on what you have said in this thread (i.e. you have a perfectly good MBP which is superior to the MBA for CAD and battery life, and your school sounds like it's very well funded and hence you probably don't need another laptop anyway).

ps. Don't get a Benz or a BMW for your first car. It only adds to the stereotype. Get a Prius.

Get a part-time job and buy a computer yourself then. I don't understand why people complain about FREE computers they get access to for FREE.

The dude has an mba and is complaining of the school computers. I feel bad for educators and the school system.

Stick to the MBP.

I think the first post did a good job in answering his question. The name calling and the quoting of the name calling is a little childish.

The MBA is not a lesser model. You give up a few things for a few things.

MBP is slightly embarrassing paying 1200 dollars for a c2d laptop with a 5400rpm harddrive that isn't particularly small. But, I think he can get over that. The advantage of the MBA is the size. Which makes the 4 year old cpu less of an drawback because its a thin and light.

They are just different computers that happen to have a blurred line right now until the MBP updates.

keep your 13" mpb and stop wasting your parents money you spoiled little brat
While I agree with you on keeping the 13" MBP calling someone a spoiled brat is not good manners. That is not spoiled by anymeans; I know kids who get Range Rover sports for there birthdays and then bitch about them and get something else while having a maxed out MacBook Pro, iPhone, etc. Two MacBooks is not spoiled at all so please don't make it out to because I know people who are idiots that are "spoiled" and people who are truly good people. Calling someone spoiled just makes you look poor and insecure. Sorry I just had to clear that up.:rolleyes:
