Not going to happen... the physical size of the connector is too big to be MBA worthy. It would take away from the "thinness" of it.

How wrong you are.

It might diminish on all but high end PC's, but in industrial applications it is USB that is an endangered species.
USB3 still does not have the credentials to replace industrial certified protocols (FW, Gige, CL, RS).

Even Apple's "Pro" computers shun industry stands so I don't see why the MBA of all laptops would be an exception. There are no FW3200 devices on the market so USB3 would be the more foward thinking option for a consumer oriented product.

I guess USB3.0 or usb-powered eSata can't bus-power a G-technology G-RAID Mini.
A 10 years old fw400 port can.

I'd love to see a fw800 on th MBA too. A man can dream. But unfortunately it's too fat...

I don't care about the FireWire, but it would be more useful with one FW and one USB 2.0 than two USB 2.0. Now, I would prefer one USB 3.0 to any other combination myself. Add in two USB 3.0, and I guess I wouldn't notice any difference myself. As I would rarely use the one USB port, but when I do it would be something that the speed of 3.0 would benefit my use.

However, I don't believe anyone will be happy with the ports today. Two USB 2.0 is about as pointless as one USB 2.0. We all want USB 3.0. The others want a FW port too, and Apple has eliminated that from the future consumer peripherals. It used to be you could buy an iPod that used FW, now FW is gone from everything Apple sells (except as a port). So there's really no reason for Apple to provide the ports anymore other than backwards compatibility, and Pros want those usually. I would guess that 95% of non-pros don't care about FW, but I am sure someone will call me a bully or ignorant for making such a statement. Heck, it's just a guesstimate not an official research study.

I say bring on USB 3.0, and there will be a lot of happy people.

USB 3 enclosures will reach USB 2 prices in a matter of months. The real benefit to buying a USB 3 drive over esata or FW though is that you can connect it to every computer, game console, nas, router and tv streamer ever made.

The fact that USB 3 is powered (actually, it has double the current of USB 2), backwards compatible and ridiculously fast means that it will dominate. No question about it.

USB3 is not mainstream yet, and there are physical impossible about the cost of USB3 components = to USB2 components. USB3 parts are far more complex, and larger.

and you are wrong about "double current". It is actually 80% more, from 500mA to 900mA (vs 1.5A for FW).
It's not nitpicking, it's the facts.

1394 4pin is smaller then USB2.

Who said it had to be FW800? Still get a better connection then USB2

You are always on the ball, Scott.

But I think USB3 may be premature to fix on right now. Could use a track record first.

And besides, as you said, 1 USB and 1 FW,
why not:
1x USB3 and 1X FW (iLink connector if they have to keep it small)?

FireWire is like Flash and 7" tablets........

DOA

Its so cute that you think Flash is dead.

DOA doesn't mean what you think it means.

LMAO, you are so right!

Why do people instantly believe what someone else says/does?

I was just informed that

I did not know! Will do in future.
