Thanks. I did read it many times. I just wanted to know your opinion. Would you choose the retina over matte because of more resolution, or glossy? Does the retina have a lot of glare in daylight? Does the retina have less battery life, or heat, or stress on the gpumcompared to the matte?
I only asked you to read the message again because other posts are coming in while I'm typing ...

... but the answer to these questions is that the Retina display on our mid-2015 MBP 15 is more vivid than the older anti-glare display. I work in a corner with a window in front of me and another to my right. I really haven't experienced much in the way of glare issues. I also haven't noticed any problems with extraordinary heat or a lack of battery life. Overall, the MBP 15 retina display model has been a very good machine. :apple:

By "sleep," do you mean the timer for shutting down the screen? If that's what you mean, both the timer and the brightness control still function on our early-2011 MBP 17. We did not open our machine up to disable our dedicated GPU, so my advice is to find the correct terminal commands to permanently switch over to the integrated GPU that resides in your Intel CPU.
See post #5 above, but for clarity's sake, the command code below will disable the defective dGPU while sleep and the keyboard backlighting are not disabled. Print the command out so you have it at hand.

The best way to disable the Radeon GPU is to boot Recovery (or Single User Mode (Command + S key combination on boot) if the dGPU refuses to function at all) and run the following command:

Code:
nvram FA4CE28D-B62F-4C99-9CC3-6815686E30F9:gpu-power-prefs=%01%00%00%00

Thanks. Is the difference in resolution between matte and retina display noticeable? If the colors are better on the retina, then its better for crearive work, right? Are the colors noticeableably better on the retina? Im sorry about so many questions but i want to know.

Just to be clear. I checked few links with possible fixes and found this one:

It's a software way, no need to solder anything. But, as it mentioned in guide, sleep and brightness control won't work. I don't know what exactly that mean. I won't able to alter brightness with keys, it will be always maximum? Or just auto brightness won't work? Same for sleep, if i'll close the lid laptop won't sleep? Or sleep by timer won't work?

That's why after posting this link i asked if there is any better way, but without soldering anything. Software way.

If it's possible, i want to disable amd gpu and keep brightness controls and lid close sleep function. Without soldering.

p.s. i also found here a guide to install Catalina on this machine. Maybe it's a good think to consider.

It means that that you wont be able to control/customize when your mac sleeps, and you wont be able to control the brightness of your screen anymore (probably only cant use the function keys to control brightness, you will pronably be able to control it through a slider).

Yes use OCLP or DosDude patchers to install new unsupported maOS on your mac! It works like a charm!

Ok good luck! Pssst....i would install Mojave personally, because that is the most stable one imo and still has dark mode...but i installed Catalina on my mid 2010 MBP and it worked great but you really should think about installing Monterey for good app support, and it still runs fine on my 2010. Seriously, think about it. Monterey is the newest macOS version i would recommend, since it works well on even non metal gpus like it did for me, and i could just use the igpu and it was ok! Ventura, the newest release, will work but noz as well as monterey, so i say stick to monterey. Also, DosDude is very smart dude (lol) and je has made great sofzware, one of which is called DeMux, which permanently disables the dgpu in your exact MBP! If it works for you or the patchers work consider donating to him, and mayne messginh him here on macrumord to say rhank you since he does have a macrumord accoint! And he does help people here!

Guys, I faced a strange issue on this saved MacBook, via installation of Mac OS 10.15. After some usage, my Chrome stopped working. If you press on the icon, it just shows a white page, and then it auto closes. I also have another browser based on chromium and it works fine.

I tried to reinstall, but that didn’t help. Since it won’t launch, I can’t even reset its settings. Maybe you can help?
