MBP C2D - Pictures!

UPDATE: Just saw the pic at the top of the specs page at Apple NZ.. and there's one less USB port on this pic (ie. there's only 1 USB port on the left).. so i'm guessing Apple NZ did forget/didn't bother to update the pic.. but either way, the Firewire port isn't on the left hand side.

UPDATE 2: I shud finish reading the page before posting here :p . On the design page at Apple NZ it clearly shows the FW800 port between the FW400 port and the Ethernet port on the right hand side.

Well, the 15" model has always only had one USB on the left side, and previously the FW400 and Ethernet were right next to each other. The 17" model has two USB ports on the left; and the FW800 between Ethernet and FW400 on the right side.

I assume that the newly-added FW800 port is on the right side, so that the right side of the 15" MBP now matches the right side of the 17" MBP. But I was curious to find out for sure. (I wish they would have added that third USB port in, too... I have exactly three USB devices that I plug into my MBP, so it seems like a waste of a USB hub...)

Glad to read there is hope the heat issue is fixed.

Can anyone comment on the screen quality? The last couple of revisions of the 15 & 17" laptops have had terrible backlighting.

Has this screen problem been resolved?

attached is a picture i just took of the backlighting. the only bad thing i could say is the right hand side and left hand side might have a just a touch less backlighting than the rest of the screen but in terms of overall quality, i think this screen is really, really good.

Could you post a new picture with completely white screen and take the picture, say, 6-7 feet away from the screen to just eliminate any camera distortion? Thanks.
 
Hi, this is my first post here.

What I really want to know about the MBP C2D before buying is about the heat. I did try the CD in a local shop and it was painfully hot! How does this one behave under normal usage? can you really put this one on your lap? What's it like under heavy usage? This is the only trouble that's holding me back, I guess by the first reports the problems with noise should be sold.

Also, I guess this is more or less normal, but is the lid on the new ones not bent? I mean, bent more or less like this:

I went thru 3 MacBook Pros this summer that all closed like that.

The lid/screen wasn't bent, ... one of the latches that held it close didn't hold it as tightly as the other one did.
 
Could you please really push it hard and then check what the heat dissipation is like? I'd really like to know because the heat is my biggest fear as I use laptops on my laps a lot, which is bad as is without the heat lol.

In any case congrats man hope you enjoy it and it lasts long. Estimated delivery November the 1st here :cool:. I bought the 15'' 2.33ghz stock model. You're really getting me excited if the 2.16 model is so fast I really want to play with my 2.33 since I am a speed freak. I don't know how I'm going to wait these 4 days, seems impossible :(
 
what's the dvd drive in that thing? I think their was a typo on the front page and can't find the drive anywhere. For those of you curious i want to ad it to my mbp rev a. and 160gb drive :D
 
Congrats! I ordered mine on the 26th, my very first mac! After playing with Windows Vista RC1 & RC2 I was completely unimpressed, so I opted for the mac. If all goes well I will be getting my wife a Mac Mini as soon as they are upgraded to the Core 2 Duo.

I hate to say it but, 'duh'.. the Core2 Duo runs much cooler and uses less energy than the Core Duo.

Hum, this might make me reconsider my purchase of the MBP core2 model. I've tested the core2 imac, and the core (original) MBP. I want the speed on the latest iMac's in the newest MBP, but noticed the original MBP had dark areas around the edges of the screen. Now that you're confirming the same is happening in the latist models, that gives me pause.

For a company that used to be touted for its "graphics", in general, Apple displays (that are built in) tend to suffer in one way or another. If it's not white spots (G4 laptops), it's screen ghosting (G5 imacs) to dark areas (MBP laptops).

Anyone own the new iMac 24"? Go to advanced menu calibration. Take a look at the apple icon in the dead center of the screen. Notice the thin bars surrounding it? They flicker like mad. I think that means the 24" has a very poor redraw. Plus, the screen is glossy and not great for design. Some will argue that last point, but then, they probably don't work on high-end ext. displays.

But you also have to consider that it does take 15-30 minutes for the crystals in the TFT display to properly 'warm up'. That could be one reason why it seems like there are black shades in the corners.
