Which did you end up getting? Curious here.
I received the latest one, 2021 MBP 14" base model. I actually got 2020 model for free, as Apple lost my own device, but I paid the price difference to upgrade this option to the latest 2021 model. So now I am using the M1 Pro processor.

Ahh nice, any difference you like?
Surely there are lots of differences ☺️

A negative difference is a software bug, causes the device to restart in sleep. This is already experienced by lots of users. But I did not have it with my latest Early 2015 MBP 13".

As positive differences, the new device is extremely fast, keyboard is again so nice (not like 2016-2017-2018 devices), ports are so useful (including HDMI and SD card slot), Magsafe charging port is again back (yayy!).
Besides that, the biggest thing now is no support for the Bootcamp. So there is no way to setup a native Windows on this M1 Pro processor. I have to use a virtual machine software.

Overall, this machine is quite nice. I am really glad I got it.

Well, MS is likely to release the ARM version sans-Qualcomm agreement so we might get BootCamp back.

Sorry to hear about Apple losing your 2015 MBP. I'm sure you are happy with the 2021 base model but you won't be able to upgrade your storage drive as it is predetermined at time of purchase and is soldered on the logic board. That is what has kept me with the 2015 models of Apple laptops because I like being able to upgrade my storage drives as my need for larger storage arises. I like to store photos and/or movie clips so that takes up storage. Anyway best of luck on your new laptop :)

Howdy Folks,

Interesting thread. I had asked on the thread that covers upgrading an early 2015 MBP about what SSD would be a good choice. So I was going to buy theSamsung 980 500GB PCle 3.0 NVMe. But now I gather there is possibly no point as I won't really get the benefit of its fast read and write speeds?

Here is my current factory default SSD. So I am better off going with a low power consumption SSD that's at least 512 in size?

thanks

Is this what you are looking for?
Your SSD is a Sandisk and 128 GB which explains the slower read/write speed. I had the same SSD in a 2015 Air 13".

I have a late 2013" Pro with a Samsung 256 GB. The same Samsung SSD in your MacBook would be faster than mine since the 2015 has a faster PCIe bus.

Ive ordered a Crucial p2 CT500P2SSD8 500GB. Hope to get on Monday and install it. Give this 2015 a new life.
Hi Paul and... Hi everyone!
does it works well with the new ssd that you have chosen?

I'm interested about Crucial P3 500GB CT500P3SSD8 or WD Blue SN570 500GB ... but I doubt that it is not compatible for macbook air 2015
waiting your feedbacks! thanks a lot!

I have the MB Pro Retina 13'' (Early 2015 model)

I recently replace the battery, which btw was a nightmare to remove. How in the world does Apple uses so much glue is beyond me. Took me a full hour of using nailpolish remover/old debit card and lots of patience and force...yes I did use a bit of force because it was the only way to really get the battery pack out.

Anyway, I also wanted to upgrade the 128 GB Samsung SSD - and got the 2TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe SSD.

Installation was easy peazy...I used Mojave to install the system. Currently I am checking the health through DriveDX...after a full day it says 100% - but I would need to transfer files to this drive to see if it maintains.

The only lack of so far is the read and write levels. I use ArmorphousDiskMark and I get roughly 1700 for each band. Which, after spending 200 EUR on this SSD that can reach levels up to 7500 mbs is not even close. Now I did not bought the SSD for fast read or writes. Never really focused on that. It was always fine for my needs. I bought the drive because I thought Samsung SSD drives are reliable, but from what I've been reading there is a lot to it. I just need extra capacity. But I don't want my new battery to drain, so I will monitor how it is going. If not return the SSD to Amazon.

I have an earlier model late 2013 15" MBPR and tried the Samsung Evo 970 with an adapter. Noticed incredible speed difference but the heat it generated was ridiculous, like the underside of my Mac was nearly too hot to touch. It ended up completely failing after 18months so I've gone back to Apple SSD's.

Hello,
My MacBook Pro mid 2015 15' 250 gb i7, SSD is dead, I bought Samsung SSD 980 NVMe M.2 500 gb I also bought a no name adapter. I find the new disk slower than the old one, the new disk speed is 686 mb/s and 1669 mb/s.
My question are
Is this speed low or normal?
Maybe the Samsung 980 SSD doesn't fit to my machine (I have no knowledge on SSD, just bought what the shop guys told me)?
or is it the adapter I should change the adapter to sintech?
thanks in advance for any help.

I have the 980 pro 2 tb for over 2,5 years. Read speed is 2900 mb/s write about 2000. The speed you have are eqivalrnt of 13" pro or air. Those non pro SSD are not speed deamons. try something else maybe?
my adapter is NFHK N-941A green or black from ali express
Hope that helps

Thanks for your prompt answer, I must change it I am used to faster response of the computer... it was fast decision as I wanted my computer back so I have trusted the seller... "your computer can't handle faster SSD" he said I did double check with seller because I wanted to buy EVO. 500gb is enough for me as, I try to limit my digital crap, 1tb or 2tb would make me lazy :)
