MBP Glossy or Matte? Differences?

apples 'professional' cinema displays only come in matte if that means anything to you.
glossy is good for making things appear to have more contrast, and sometimes more vivid. But as you know from your experience with your PC laptop, glare will be your enemy.
Personally, given the choice I will always choose matte. Unless of course I have a chance to get an amazing deal on a blackbook or something.

I finally did myself a favor and went to best buy to check out the differnces.
Matte. All the way.
The reflection on the glossy is horrible. Plus, it seems just too flimsy.

Yup Matte is awesome, i got a 17" matte for Xmas, and the display is wonderful!! Its soooo much brighter than my iBook!
I guess I will chime in and say that I love my glossy screen. The only time I have reflection problems is when the sun is beaming directly through my window and making my face so bright that I can see it in the screen, but that's about 15 minutes per day.
Actually, I'm noticing the glossy screen on the macbook pro is much less reflective than the similar HPs and Toshibas I see in the stores. I have never had a problem with reflection with this one, and the screen is so much more beautiful color-wise and seems to appear sharper.
Well I'll tell you what: on the glossy screens, you might notice how the words look far away as opposed to right up against the screen. That would drive me bonkers.

I have a matte 17" PB G4 and my new glossy 15" C2D is far easier to read. The colors are richer and brighter. I had my doubts about going with the gloss but when I bought it I decided 'what the hell.' Love it and haven't looked back.
The only worries I see with this are reflection and screen smudges. The reflection is not bad at all, and the smudging just makes me wanna clean it more.
I'd say gloss is the boss...

I was worried about glossyness as well, but it didn't seem too bad when I checked them out at the Apple store. I would still probably buy a matte, but the glossy does looks kinda cool, until you find your eye focusing on the big white rectangle that's reflecting the ceiling light...I think the color looks nice, but to me not worth the annoyance.
One thing that might push you one way or the other - if you're concerned about prying eyes, you might not want to go glossy. The viewing angle on the glossy screen is insane.
Knowing that, I'd still go glossy, though. I can't believe how much easier this is on my eyes.

I think this has been said in another way, but Ill re-iterate.
If you put glossy on the Pro, then you're essentially putting the consumer display on the pro notebook. If you are a purist, go for the matte.
Plus I think it looks better anyway. 15" here.

Because glossy is awesome. Sharpness and colour saturation are the dog's bo**ocks.

I have a MB and sadly it only has one choice (Glossy) but if i were to get a MBP, i'd get matte. I've read a bit on the differences and apparently "matte" is more "true" to what the color on the screen represents while glossy not only has a more reflective/shiny screen but it shows colors more vividly.
I went to the Apple store and stood there with two Macbook Pros, one matte and one glossy. Before going there I figured I was going to choose the matte, but after seeing the glossy, it was very nice. The Matte just looked washed out. So I choose the glossy and I am happy with it so far.
Flip a coin.
You will be happy in the long run either way. I like the way both screens look when displaying content.

-Easier on the eyes for long periods of use
-Less intense colors and contrast (still crisp and bright however)
This whole glossy screen thing is just a laptop option, you typically never see glossy lcd tvs or desktop monitors.
I had a class that I used to take my laptop to and most other students had glossy PC notebooks. I liked the way my screen looked (matte MBP) much better. The flourescent lights turned their screens basically into a mirror. It probably doesn't look as severe when you are the user of the computer though.
I liked the way both looked when I was at the Apple store, but I'm personally very happy with the matte.

Well, it really isn't from a technical standpoint. If you are a professional using your computer for imaging purposes you don't want glossy as it doesn't represent colors and contrast accurately. Especially if print work is being done.
