I went with the glossy and found.....

Colours are definitely rich. Movies, web pages and pics POP off the page in bright colour.

Reflection is not bad, certainly tolerable unless your out and the sun is right on the screen, but 9 times outta 10 how hard is it to just move a bit.

No regrets on my end going with glossy.

PS: I found this site Diesel Station has awesome wallpapers for doing just such comparisons, just download a few pics.

Well, it really isn't from a technical standpoint. If you are a professional using your computer for imaging purposes you don't want glossy as it doesn't represent colors and contrast accurately. Especially if print work is being done.

True, but how accurate is matte? In the end it comes down to what kind of ink and paper you use, and how closely it's been matched to the software, as well as how well the software adjusts for your specific screen (through color profiles).

I noticed in your post that you have a macbook and a mbp. Do you like the glossy of the macbook better than the mbp? I'm looking into a 17 MBP but am not sure about the glossy or matte (plus no apple store within 100 miles to look at them in person either).

I'd like to know the answer to that too. Anyone care to tackle that question?

I think though im not sure, ill see if i can find a linky, though someone feel free to prove me wrong, hundreds of times, glossy is cheaper than matte.

i just got a glossy MBP a few days ago and couldn't be happier. I was gonna get a matte display since i have a imac, but then i looked at glossy vs matte side by side and the glossy looked 10 times better and seemed a lot brighter. to me it seems kinda of like HD vs. SD. Just seems really clear and more colorful then the matte screen. i suggest checking them out side by side for a real decision.

The reflection issues with glossy are very over-rated (and seem to come mainly from people who haven't lived with a glossy screen...) I rarely have any reflections issues, which surprises me as I was anticipating more...

I was veering toward a matte MBP, but after playing with them at the Apple store, I bought a glossy MB for its diminutive size and have fallen in love with the glossy screen--incredible colors and depth...

It does seem to attract more dust and dog hair and smudges however, at an amazing rate.

A friend bought a matte 17" MBP yesterday, and the first thing I noticed was that the display looked washed out and dull--huge, yes, but not as lively and bright and enticing as my lil' glossy 13" MB...

I've got LCD TVs, which I preferred to plasma TVs because of the glossy vs. matte issue. So when I started looking at MBPs I felt sure I'd prefer the matte. When I compared the two in the Apple Store, with all the lights, I initially liked the matte better because of the glare. But when I sat the glossy MBP beside the matte MBP the colors on the glossy just "popped" to me, looking so much better than the "washed out" color of the matte screen. So I debated and debated, read many threads like this one, and went to the Apple Store about a dozen times to compare the matte vs glossy MBP. After pondering, I boiled it down to my head said get the matte, but my heart said get the glossy.

I ended up going with my heart and the glossy 17 inch MBP and I've never regretted it! The colors are so nice on the glossy screen. The first week I used my MBP was at night at home, with normal overhead lighting and lamps. And that first week I kept asking myself whether this was really a glossy screen, because in normal use I couldn't tell unless I angled the screen just right to catch the glare. The next weekend, when I first used my glossy MBP during the day, I saw more glare, but it was not very noticeable except when the sun was streaming in the windows behind me. During those times I just changed the angle of the screen slightly and eliminated the glare.

Since I've gotten my glossy MBP I've had the chance to look at other glossy screens, mainly Dells, HPs, and Compaqs, and to me the PC glossy screens were much more reflective than the Mac glossy screens. I don't know whether that is right, but to me the Mac glossy screen is not as reflective as PC glossy screens, at least the ones I've seen.

So for me, I'm glad I went with the glossy. I love my glossy MBP! But the bottom line is there is no right answer and no wrong answer--there's only the right or wrong answer for YOU, and what you prefer! Some swear by the glossy; some swear by the matte--go look at them in the Apple Store, or find someone with one, and look at it, over and over, in all conditions, and decide which YOU prefer!
