Not to hi-jack your thread, but yea I just installed a new legit copy of windows xp sp2 under bootcamp on my 24" imac. Windows update was pretty ridiculous, before I could begin the 65 updates I had to do install 3 updates then restart then started downloading the 65 updates...

Like someone had already said, 6 updates don't seem to bad compared to 68 ;]

Aaaaahhhh.................Update:

Called today,...............where is my MBP, I haven't seen a shipping tracking number or order status shows NOT SHIPPED YET.................oh sorry sir but yes it has.....................well then why can't I see it in my order status.........cause it hasn't updated on our computer system yet............Escalate this call...............hi this is &^%*&^ I'm a manager respresentitive etc etc.............I told her my computer should have shipped today at lattest.................sorry sir I'm showing this hasn't shipped yet..............what? cancell my entire order I'm sending everything back I'm done with you all, your people tell me one thing and then the next person tells me something else you have had my returned computer for 2 days now and yet you haven't shipped mine, do you realize that you have taken a new customer and made him wait a week and one day for his replacement computer?????????????????? Do you realize that it took me less time to get my original order. If I was you all and shipped a dead computer to someone, I would make sure they had an new computer on their doorstep the next day. If its not here by Monday, I'm cancelling the order, packing up the other $2000 dollars in other crap I bought from you guys, sending it back too, don't even think about restocking charges cause I'll take you to court, call the BBB in Sacremento and fight the charges on my card. Monday!! Got it........have a nice day. CLICK
Enough said
If this is the way my apple life is going to go forget it. Its not worth the pain and MISINFORMATION trail that I have been yanked around. Truly, I'd rather be dealing with and fighting virus's etc on a PC and having more time to my self.........because I'm spending more time trying to get a straight answer out of these people at Apple than I ever would fighting virus's on my pc.
Enough is enough............I've had it with these people.

I'm not saying your experience is not real BUT I've never experienced anything like that with 15 years of Mac experience and over 20 Macs in the business / family. My need for repairs / returns has been minimal but Apple's service has been excellent.

Have you dealt with person - got their name at the begining - or been bouncing to whomever picked up your call?

From experience I can say I was in your same spot. My first one sucked. Then they upgraded me for free to the 2.33 and gave me an extra gig of Ram then gave me a bigger HD. And they shipped it to me Free the next day. It took me 10 seconds for me to go from never wanting another Apple to Hello new problem free computer.

I understand your frustration, but getting cross at the folk on the 'phone isn't really going to get them to go the extra mile to sort your problems, is it? (apologies if you weren't, but from your post it sounds like it!).

Also, be aware that their tracking info is "patchy" at best - my last order didn't track at all with the courier until the day it was out for delivery, so just because you can't track it doesn't mean that it's not on its way.

Hope you get sorted soon....

I feel sorry for you man.

But tracking wise, for my macbook, the tracking didn't show online until the day after it was actually sent out. And what's more funny was, the accessory I ordered separately afterwards, the tracking information didn't show up until it got here.

However, no excuse for Apple to mishandle the same issue one time after another, but have a little bit more faith. I own 2 PCs and 1 MAC, and I would say the MAC is still easier to maintain overall. I would still wait if I were you.

Welcome to the wonders of online forums. Nobody comes here to proclaim that they have a perfect machine. The main reason places like this exist is to help the few unlucky folks who have problems so the majority of the people on this site (which represent a tiny percentage of the Mac community) will have had some problems.

Early on in the period of ownership is when hardware is likely to show it's not quite right. That's why there are warranties and you should put yours to good use, as should anyone with problems. The more companies need to do warranty repairs the more they'll invest in QC to ensure they don't need to do more in the future.

Sorry you've had problems, and yes, PCs have the same problems at probably the same rate (we all use the same hardware now remember - there's no such thing as "special Apple hardware" except the logic boards of course) but you've come to a friendly place where we'll help you get the right advice as quickly as we can.

So ring Apple, explain to them calmly the state of your laptop and ask them what they are prepared to do to remedy the situation.

Oh, and yeah, you're going to have to download updates, they don't unpack everything everytime a new update comes out - luckily it's a very straightforward procedure.

Hope you've got everything under control, don't hesitate to ask for help.

You've made the right decision, this is just an unexpected speedhump.

Took all the words right out of my mouth.

There is something fishy about all of this. Not sure if it's OCD or what, but sometimes the more you bug a company about "where's my things" the more they they try to help. The more they try to help, the more chance there is of things screwing up.

On top of it all where does this guy find the time to:

1. Post so much dramatic info to a forum
2. Call apple so much
3. Get the cash to get a $3k computer when he spends most of his other time doing 1 and 2.
4. Look a gift horse in the mouth- a free airport extreme

In addition, the threat of calling the BBB is the most annoying and ineffective thing anyone can say to anyone in retail.

If he had stopped "picking" at things he probably would be happy with his purchase. Sounds to my like this was a quest to look for problems. I hate to say it, but if I'm Apple, I'm happy to refund the money.

i feel for you , Scottfire, in that you are acting like a petulant child and have no sense of proportionality... It's just stuff. Be an adult and act accordingly. Your petty tirades on some web forum are an embarrassment as is your misplaced sanctimony and self righteousness.

Grow up.

Update:

Contacted by Apple today, upper level management "Mr. SO and So, we are so very sorry to regret to inform you that some how twice now at our Sacremento Facilities we show two attempts to P&S/ticket your order but for some reason it got mixed up and is not showing up in our system at all. I asked "what is P&S/ticket?" ........"oh yes, I'm sorry, it stands for pull and ship ticket". So, I asked why don't you P&S me another one and ship it over night? We are sorry but we ran out of inventory today and an order has been place with you being the top priority P&S ticket as soon as you product arrives from overseas (my order was custom configured w. 200gb HD) My new ship date is FEBRUARY 1st (NOTE: they keep custom configured items stocked in Sacremento but everything comes from overseas)

I wonder if the self rightous and comically entertaining likes of Bunson Burner and CEAbiscuit could honestly say they wouldn't feel the same if put in my situation. Hmmmm.........don't knock a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes, but hey, I appreciate your point of view and constucted criticism. I would encourage you both to take a good honest look in the mirror and ask yourself if you live by the same standards you expect others to live by. Oh and by the way, I did a little research on all of your post history, man you guys are hypocrits. Bunson you where just rant about and Apple computer that had a bunch of problems too.........hypocrits. Post history button (accountability at its finest)
CEAbiscuit though I don't owe you an explanation to your 1-4 timeline, I will engage you anyhow.
1.Post so much dramatic info to a forum..... I'm a firefighter/medic whom works 48 hrs on shift and 96 off shift. When I'm on shift, I thank GOD I have down time to sit at the station and be bored otherwise I'm pronouncing people dead or telling family members we are sorry but your so and so didn't make it. So, that is where all my time comes from to be able to call Apple so much and do such "dramatic" post to forums. At times computers are the only thing for us to do at the station. Good thing!
CEAbiscut's #3: 3. Get the cash to get a $3k computer when he spends most of his other time doing 1 and 2. Well, on my off days when I'm not fighting fire I have been blessed to have the opportunity to do some freelance business with a popular national broadcasting company in which one gig with them pays for my entire setup that was coming from Apple. Since I have received my software I need but not my computer, I can't make this money or work on the project, so again..........I have time to do dramatic post to web forums. I know this is probably in one ear and out the other for you but you could have just read right on by this forum without blessing us with your wisdom, and you really didn't help the situation, you just stopped to put salt on an open wound. Thanks bro........you distracted me from Apple.
And last but not least.......Bunson Burner.........your a trip.
Didn't you just do what I did? I was complaining about Apple and now your complaining about me? So, here is my response just reversed of what you said.
"i feel for you , Bunson Burner, in that you are acting like a petulant child and have no sense of proportionality... It's just a guy on a thread complaining about his experience with his new computer. Be an adult and act accordingly. Your petty tirades on some web forum (about Scottfire) are an embarrassment as is your misplaced sanctimony and self righteousness."
Bunson Burner, again, look in the miror and repeat, is this being self righteous?"

:) To the rest of you whom have offered advice and have truly been mature enough to validate what it feels like to have this happen to you and to be human enough to say "Hey, Scottfire that sucks and I'm sorry your having to go through that" Thank you. It means a lot to have people just understand and be empathetic to your situation, this is called COMMUNITY. Your wise and mature words where comforting and helpful.:)

I politely told Apple today that it was not so much there timeline that upset me, but the mis-information that I got from numerous people who said "its already shipped, its on its way and then to talk with someone else and be told "No, I have no clue why they told you that" etc etc. I was couteous and had a really long and productive conversation with upper management on the subject. They offered me some other stuff at discount but I politely refused and told them that it would not be necessary. They have issued me a return authorization without penalty and I will be returning my equipment. Its strictly a principal thing and a peace of mine thing. I will give Apple another chance someday for sure but for now I'm going to have to pass.
Again, I thank the people that have participated in this thread and as a whole are good, caring people who tried to help another human being out with his frustration and for that I applaud you. For those that had nothing better to do then come in and attack someone for being frustrated at a situation, I wish you peace and introspect and self reflection.
God bless you all and have a good night.
Scott

Hi Scottfire,
I know you said you wouldn't return but in the event you do, here is an article of similar situation your experiencing:

http://www.macnn.com/articles/06/08/18/apple.walk.of.shame/

I'm sorry you had the challenges you did and yes, I agree with you. Some people can relate to your situation and others can not. Those that can relate should should offer empathy, those that can't should probably move on and not get involved. Some people in this world just like to hear themselves talk.

Not all Apple users are as mindless as a few you have experienced in these threads.

Apple is a GREAT product and you should give them they're second chance soon.

You can't expect people with awesome Apple experiences to let this forum turn into an Apple-bashing party.

No mass-produced product can maintain a 0% defect rate whilst remaining affordable. Products come with a warranty for precisely this reason.

********! If Apple were only to cut a little bit of their profits and do a bit more R&R perhaps we'd all have more reliable machines. These dud Apple computers are popping up more and more recently. I'm just now on my second problem with my MacBook Pro.

I'm in the same boat as phantasmagoria. I just switched within the last month. My mbp arrived in perfect condition. Apple sells millions of computers, you only hear about a small amount of problems from those millions of computers. Its all bad luck. There will always be defects, and someone will get dealt a bad hand.
