You will never get those accustomed to high resolution 15.4" LCD (1680x1050 or higher) to embrace lower resolution, and vice versa. Well, at least not until they get older and eyes worsen (at which point, resolution independence should be a common place).

That said, there are plenty of reasons to embrace high resolution 15.4" LCD: upcoming resolution independence, ability to view super mega pixels photos with greater details, video editing, graphics design, software development, watching 1080p video with minimal (or no) downscaling, etc. And plenty of reasons not to: harder to read smaller text without resolution independence, requires more video memory, upcoming resolution independence may not work properly across all applications, slower video game frame rates at native resolution, etc.

Well, I have a Dell XPS Gen 2, which I have had for exactly 2 years now. It has a 17" screen and a native resolution of 1920x1200. That is the res I run it at. I have NO problems with it. It isn't too high res, and as a matter of fact, everything else seems WAY too LOW of a res to me now.

Apple NEEDS to offer a 1920x1200 option. It's one of the main reasons I went PC. If Apple is supposed to cater to the art and design people (me), they need the higher res screen as an offering. The extra screen real estate is important to me. And unless Apple offers a 1920x1200 option, I will be forced to get a PC again. As much as I hate Windows, the truth is, the hardware is there. It isn't with Apple.

If the 15.4'' MBP doesn't have at least 1680x1050, I'm going to be extremely disappointed. My Dell Inspiron has it, so the MBP should.

That is exactly how I feel, just not about the 17" part ;-). I like the size of 15.4 personally.

Unfortunately, it seems more likely that Apple if going to stick with the 1440x900... AT LEAST GIVE US THE OPTION!!!!
