MBP Update in 3. quarter 2007?

I need the MBP now and not in 6 months, but I need the upgraded in 6 months, too. Thats a really bad situation for me.

I guess what is confusing to everyone is *why* you need the upgrade one. You don't even know what it is going to be upgraded to....so how do you know you need it. I'm sure the folks at Apple's marketing would love to have every customer have that attitude!

haha...I know. I am laughing about myself, too.
I need the hihghest performance as a portable device, because I am travelling alot so I can´t use a Mac Pro.
I was pretty close to buy the new upgraded MBP, but then I heard about the rumor of an update that will probably happen the next 3-4 months later.
Maybe I should work for Apple marketing so I knew what the people want

Apple updates their laptop machines every 6 months.

Thus, it seems reasonable we'll see a new machine with the Penryn chip in early 2008. It may be either Santa Rosa or Montevina platform, depending on all sorts -- not least, if Intel gets Montevina out on time in sufficient numbers.

Around 6-9 months after that, we should see Nehalem. And then the Nehalem die-shrink, of which I forget the name, sometime 2009... and then the successor to Nehalem in 2010...

You can wait forever for "the next upgrade" -- because there's always one more coming soon.

Besides the general silliness of this..."Core 2 Extreme" denotes the super high-end $1000esque desktop CPUs. It's not a line of CPUs, and it's not the replacement for the Core 2-it's just the top couple of models on the desktop side.

Now is an EXCELLENT time to buy in terms of specs. They were just updated, and they're using top of the line CPUs. If you wait until Januaryish, sure, there will be better CPUs...but by that logic you then need to wait until late '08, and then '09, and then...

Luckily for me, I start uni in October, so I have to wait until Leopard for the HE discount on my first mac anyway (well, or get it from China ^_^...but I'd rather wait ).

Like someone else said in another thread - I just really like waiting. I've been thinking of replacing my current Vaio for the last year...so a few more months is nothing.

There's at least two "Core 2 Extreme" mobile processors on the 2007 roadmap (unless they've since been cancelled -- this is from memory.)

In 3Q07, the X7800 (2.6GHz) model. In 4Q07, this is withdrawn and a T7800 appears at the same clockspeed, and an X7900 appears (2.8GHz).

In both cases, they debut at ~$1,000/cpu in trays of 1,000 units.

I don't see the X[78]00 being added to Macs -- way too expensive -- but it's possible the T7800 could eventually show up. It probably depends upon when Penryn shows in quantity, and if lower end systems stay with Merom.

Never really see the point in waiting for the next upgrade.

If you bought a computer today, it's the latest and best you can get.
If you bought a computer yesterday, well it's out of date.
If you buy a computer tomorrow it will be at the cutting edge of what can be done.

Errr, I have a question, or two, ........ What, exactly, do you use a portable computer for? What kind of software do you normally run?

Maybe we can give you some slightly more informed commentary if you can provide us with answers to the above questions.

Yeah, that's probably how you're never gonna upgrade. There'll always be a future upgrade ahead. I bought the C2D MBP a few months ago an certainly do not regret it. Murphy's law will always apply.
