What files did you change? I've tried /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemAppearance.bundle/Resources/Assets.car;/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/LoginUIKit.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LoginUICore.framework/Versions/A/Resource and nothing worked (even after a NVRAM reset in case it was cached there).
