Have you tried ejecting and putting the SIM back in? I got a "invalid sim" first, then after 2-3 mins vodafone showed up. and now if i switch between sims it doesnt take more than 5 secs to accept the SIMs. :)

Yes.
Mine only shows five tiny points in the upper left corner and thats it.

My personal advice: Please wait for the final version of yellowsn0w and then at least two weeks with the 3G software unlock. It's an early beta version out now. The dev-team announced beta version 0.9.1 some minutes ago:

UPDATES

Soon you’ll see yellowsn0w 0.9.1 in the repos. It uses a much longer delay to let your SIM card initialize. If you have problems with 0.9.0, try this one and wait a full minute after you see homescreen, then reinsert sim card. We need both success and failure reports to tune this across the world, so please be patient (but please also report result!)

If you are in the U.S. and are trying this with T-Mobile, you must turn off the 3G switch in Settings. Also if you are good with the command line, you can make it much easier by adding the line <string>-q</string> right after the /usr/bin/yellowsn0w line in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.iphone-dev.yellowsn0w.plist (that’s and advanced tip, hopefully someone will make a boosprefs type of tool for it)

No PIN support yet. Remember how we said this was beta? Well we’re still working out the flow for SIMs with PINs enabled. Please disable any PIN you may have on that SIM before trying yellowsn0w, for now.

The unlock will silently quit on anything other than baseband 02.28.00. It detects the wrong version and just quits to avoid any damage. Please double check your Modem Firmware setting in Settings->General->About.

Unlocked for the Heck of it...

Just this morning I unlocked my 3G just to say I did it( just for the heck of it), I'm staying on AT&T and everything seems to be running smoothly. So just to clarify , The iPhone 3G will NOT work with TMobile???? Even if they have one of the same 3G radioband signal the same???

i get five small dots like it about get get signal. but some time i get no services

T-mo's 3G will NOT work with the iPhone 3G because T-Mo chose frequencies entirely different. They don't overlap at all.

This information is available at the dev team website. BTW, the previous post didn't answer the question you asked. The iPhone 3g is the model name of the current iPhone. The iPhone 3G works on the Edge and 3G networks. Tmobile also works on the 3G and Edge networks, but uses a different frequency on the 3G network. An unlocked iPhone 3G will work on the Tmobile Edge network, but what's the point of doing that?

This will officially void the warranty right?
This unlock solution requires jailbreaking.

For those getting five little "bars" (read Dots more like it), give it about 15 minutes it'll just say "Activated!" Like it did with mine.

Too bad T-Mobile's 3G doesn't work with the iPhone's :(

how many ppl here got it to work?
I did! It was able to call and receive calls by just putting in the SIM (and waiting about 15 minutes) and after I put in VPN settings I was able to use Safari, all on EDGE. (Disabling 3G is required, but if you turn it on the phone will search for another 15 minutes or so and it'll get EDGE). I was using a Sidekick SIM.

ic take that long for the sim to be recognized

its works for me on t-mobile u.s.a. but i cant seem to get on wifi... and when i try to call someone it looses connection... everything else seems to work except 3g of course...

Yellowsn0w

It has been running flawlessly for me since early this morning. WiFi and all on t-Mobile USA

I'm getting five dots and then No Service after about 5 minutes trying to get Vodafone Italy chip to work. Have ejected and reinserted the SIM a few times...no change.

I found it to work , follow this

go to general>setting> reset? reset all network setting
then take the sim out (give it 1 min)
and put it back on
after that go to airplane mode and turn it on for 10 sec
then turn it off.. it should work..
if still doesn't work then just take the sim out and put it back in

should work....I see the Tmobile sign now

Is it possible to jailbreak a 3g iphone with baseband 2.28.00?

It turns out that the unlock will ONLY work with 2.28.0, and if you are still running 2.11.7, you need to upgrade. Sucks for all those people who didn't upgrade and sacrificed the stability and features of 2.2 for so long.

You had a choice. You could have updated all but the base band and gained all 'the stability and features of 2.2'.

thanks dev team. Got it working on three network, uk including outbound & inbount calls, 3G data & wifi

sunil could u please post more on how u got it to work. im using a 3 sim and cannot get it to work. i upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 using itunes then jailbroke with quickpwn and installed yellowsnow using cydia. was first getting 5 dots and now saying no service. have tried rebooting/swapping sims/airplane mode etc but still no luck...

This is great, I had upgraded to 2.2 before the unlock announcement (I haven't been paying much attention to unlock attempts) and was worried I wouldn't be able to unlock my iPhone. This will save me a lot money when I travel out of the US.

This is very frustrating. None of my sim cards work on my Movistar Spain iPhone.

I've tried Spanish sim cards (Simyo, Yoigo, Jazztel, Vodafone) and Israel Orange and none work. :(

A lot of people mention putting the phone into airplane mode but no matter how I do it, every time I turn the plane mode off, I get a "invalid sim" error.

What's worse.. it seems that Yellowsn0w CANNOT be uninstalled.
I mean, it's supposed to be a daemon and a modification to the baseband code. You can uninstall the daemon but the modification seems to be permanente, because I just restored 2.2 and I don't get an "invalid sim" error when I put any other sims.

With unmodified iphone you get a sim error as soon as you put in another operator sim cards.

I don't like this..
