Merom delayed til 2007?

Thank god. Plus I was hoping since we work on Mac OS X the Windows Vista launch wouldn't affect us. >.>

Since the architecture of Conroe and Woodcrest are based directly off Merom, this doesn't make much sense, but some more information on this would be appreciated.
Oh well....looks like i'm not waiting anymore. With the introduction of the Merom sometime in Q4, we might not see them in laptops til early 2007 at the latest.
edit: on the other hand I might try and find a machine to use as a filler til Merom, using a 700 mhz G3 iBook right now, barely running the things i need it for like Macromedia Studio 8. Any idea when the new mac mini's are coming out?

Keep in mind that the iBooks will still be coming out with he Core Solos, and that the performance edition of the Core Duo will be out soon as well, possibly making it's way into a 17" MacBook Pro. So it's not like we won't have any developments on the laptop front until Q4...
Are these prices quoted to Apple or just to vendors? I'm sure Apple will be getting a pretty decent deal on them as well as other manufacturers.cube said:

All chances are, if a OEM, like Apple, gets reductions, the difference will be even less.
The Solos are just Duos with one core disabled, so they cost the same to make (not that it really matters, as the markup on CPUs is HUGE). The only thing is that some may be salvaged from CPUs with one bad core, and not just disabled on purpose.

I'm waiting for a new design that impresses me. see my sig, it says i hate old designs, and its true. Any new apple laptop that impresses me will probably be what i get. Maybe (and probably) a (hopefully, at least as a BTO) core duo ibook (MacBook). Redesigned. The more things the better but the MBP has more power than i need, and has the same (basicly) design of the computer i'm typing on now. not worth $2500.
I think it's fairly obvious that they're not going to redesign them anytime soon. If they were going to, the switch to x86 would have been a great opportunity to redesign- but why would they? People like the brushed aluminum look, the 1" thickness, and everything else.
