Probably. I'm just pissed off because this feature was working perfectly for me across several devices. Deleting messages, changing Do Not Disturb settings, and so on all synchronised immediately and correctly. It was great. But because some people had issues (not that I know who these people are because I've seen very very few complaints!) they have removed it in a way that completely ****s over everyone who used it without issue.

It was also the only reason I bothered trying out iOS 11 beta! Doh!

I feel ya. I'm ready to call it for now, it should have been done already unless the size is being misreported. I might try it again when I get home so I can have a controlled environment and see if there's actually any throughput on my routers while this is going on. Maybe some info can be gleaned from some packet capture.

At least for now it looks to me like you're right; it's not working. I get the spinner on "Turning off..." At least you're not the only one, right? :D

Still happening in developer beta 7/public beta 6.

Do you think this is fixed in dev beta 8/public beta 7? I checked just now and I want to say that my backup size increased--potentially as a result of Messages being included again--but I'm not 100% positive. Messages is also no longer showing up as taking up space in iCloud Storage.

There is progress, but it is still not fixed.

For me, Messages has disappeared from the iCloud pane, so I can't try to disable it anymore.

Weirdly, the iCloud storage available varies by platform.

iOS reports little free storage, with the storage formerly taken by Messages in iCloud now a nondescript grey colour.

macOS reports the storage formerly taken by Messages in iCloud is now taken up by photos and videos(!!!)

iCloud.com reports that the storage is actually available.

This is so messed up.

This is still happening in the GM. Have anyone else’s messages gone back to backing up correctly?

They must be backing up as after I installed the GM build I did an encrypted backup in iTunes and then erased all content and settings on my phone and restored the backup and my messages are present and correct.

iTunes backup ≠ iCloud backup.

I think mine did but I haven't tried to test it by doing an erase and restore from iCloud. I'm only going by how much my device backup size has ballooned. The different categories seem accurate--photos and videos, backup, family use, etc.--and I can't see any misreported storage across my platforms.

I haven't done anything special to fix it other than going about my day.
