If I install the iOS 11 public beta today then will I not be able to enable Messages on iCloud or is it just some people having the issue where it's greyed out?

Mine is greyed out won’t let me click messages in iCloud

Same for me...I have High Sierra and iOS 11 running and neither seem to work. On the iPhone it is greyed out and it says "Last Sync: Never". On High Sierra it won't even let me turn on.

I have tried to log out of iMessage and back in on both. Nothing changed. I also logged out of iCloud on my Mac and readded with no luck either.

Running PB2 on both devices.

Mine was grayed out until I opted in to two step verification. Once I did that for all my devices, my computer offered it up, than my iPad worked.

I have two-step verification enabled already. Only thing I can think of is that is somehow it got turned off?

UPDATE: Well, that is not it. I verified I am logged in with two-factor authentication. So, outside of the sync option just being turned off in PB2 I can not figure out what could be the issue.

Anyone have this working yet? I’m on the latest beta and have it say Never for last sync every time.

This seems to be much more server-side based than software dependent. My guess is Apple is still reconciling and testing the functionality from the server-side (particularly if we think iMessages may be accessible from an internet browser down the line)

Installed beta 4, and I still cannot get messages to sync over the cloud. I tried resetting settings, turning iCloud off and imessage off and on again. Nothing seems to work for me between my iPhone and iPad.

I installed Beta 4, and while the sync worked previously...now the option under settings>messages isn't even available anymore... its disappeared.

It's now only under Settings > iCloud, with a toggle. And in Messages, a bar appears when sync occurs. I think they're trying to keep it as automatic as possible, like other iCloud sync features.

Still not seeing it under icloud...

The issue that I have, is I try to hit sync now. It starts to sync. Then immediately stops. And does nothing. I try hitting sync now to manually sync it again. And again nothing happens when I hit that button. It’s like it tries, but stops abruptly.

That's exactly what happens when I try and use it too.

I have had it working on my phone since PB1. For PB3, it is still under messages however it's not an option to enable or not anymore. It's kind of integrated. I just have a "sync" button. Of course you need to flip the iCloud switch for messages as well.

What is strange for me is that the option to store messages in iCloud on my MBP/High Sierra was enabled and working with PB1 but has been grayed out for PB2 and 3. BUT, I firmly believe it is working on my Mac (even though not checked and grayed out). I get the blue bar and my messages are synced between my phone and Mac. Delete one on the phone and it deleted from the Mac and vice versa.

I submitted the issue and they got back to me and told me it was that I didn't have 2FA enabled, which I do and have for some time now.

also, because i had the sync setting on previously, when updating to the latest beta (even in beta 3) they now have TWO MESSAGES in my iCloud storage. both are 10 gb. one is most likely the actual back up (without sync), and one is probably sync. but it's very annoying.

Same here. Sync immediatly stops, it seems the function is not available yet....

It's a beta.. most new features shouldn't be expected to work, or at least this early in the beta cycle.

People acting like this non-public feature that's not functioning as intended is ruining their phone..

Well I think what is confusing is this feature was switched on at one point. And then it just sort of stopped working. And I don’t buy it’s a beta for every excuse. At some point some of these features need to go live for testing purposes before the final ios comes out.

Except it works fine for some people and also Apple have been asking for logs and such in my feedback report about it not working. So yes it is supposed to be working right now.

Interesting for me. I show no green bar for message data on my phone or in iCloud. They have to be somewhere!

In Beta 4 is everyone seeing the sync option under settings>messages? Bc I still do not...
