Actually I found that Apple TV 2 doesn't support AC3 6CH.... oops.

You should not make a blank statement like that without detailing your files and issues.....

Apple says it's supported and

It works fine for many people on this forum.....

You have an issue with your files or setup

Ok my bad

ATV2 supports 5.1 ac3 ONLY if you don't use the 1/8 stereo jack as your sound output.

Sorry there's no help on this

Umm

There is no 1/8" stereo jack on the AppleTV 2

There is a toslink optical digital audio output that can send either stereo digital output or pass thru 5.1 ac-3 Dolby digital.

There are not any analog connections on the AppleTV 2!!!!

Did you try to stick a analog 1/8" jack into the optical port?

Sounds like it from one of your posts on another thread.

Lol you are correct!!

Ok appletv supports 264 and AC3 6ch BUT only if the optical out is plugged into a reciever that knows ac3

My Sony bravia requires a 2ch track.

The problem is that most bittorrent releases are 264 and ac3 avi's

If I pass thru both the audio and video with mkvtools then my appletv gets no sound. So I have to transcode just the audio.

That's still tons faster than video monkey or handbrake!!!

I want to help you here but your details are confusing....

Are you saying your files are both 264 and ac3 in an avi container? Or are you saying that your files are either 264 alone implying acc audio in an mp4 and another group of files that are divx/xvid with ac3 in an avi?

.????

H.264 within an AVI container is such an uncommon (bastard) format that my first recommendation is find better uploaders with the same material. Not hard to find unless your video is a rarity. That format stutters on my wdtv which plays almost everything.

Explain more or PM me :)

Is it just me, or did Apple completely broke the way ATV2 displays movie metadata in 4.3? Most of my movies are missing Descriptions, Year, and Screenwriter tags when displayed by ATV2. iTunes itself has no problem with the same files, and neither did older ATV1.

Tried using Subler and Identify2 with the same results. Anyone else experiencing this?

It's even worse on the iPad. Sometimes the movie artwork is placed on the wrong movies during sync. Sometimes I get plot summaries but no listings for actors or directors.

I aslo wonder if this has to do with the optimize function or rewriting the file VS tagging the existing one.
