FWIW......contacted a local AT&T store today about microcell and rep mentioned they will be in training for this in the next 2 weeks and "usually" following training the product is launched so "they" expect potential release in October.

Let's keep our fingers crossed, can't come soon enough at my home where I get MINIMAL coverage at best

Wow, I JUST logged on to search for an update on this. Good news, thanks for posting!

If this gonna be a one time buy type of item, because I remember a while ago, rumors said it be a monthly fee....I'd be pissed if it was a monthly fee!

I live in Charlotte, NC so you may want to reach out to your local AT&T store and see if they reiterate what the rep I spoke to said.

If they do it'll confirm our hopes

I have no doubts that you are correct. Charlotte was one of the 3 cities that they tested the microcell in. They also stated that they wanted to do a limited marketing test launch and then a national launch. In other words it will probably be sold in those 3 cities first (Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta) and then a national launch a month or 2 later. Me, I am hoping that I can somehow convince someone to buy me one who lives in one of the initial launch cities.

I needs me a microcell real bad.

Im inbetween on this. At my house i get on average 2 to 3 bars of edge, which is good enough to text and talk, i have wifi at my house so data isnt an issue. The problem is 2 to 3 bars of edge leave my calls sometimes sounding like im underwater plus sometimes my service drops to one bar and once in a while blinks to no service for a second. I would say i have below average service but im not sure if thats enough for me to pay a potential monthly fee, which was stated in another microcell thread.

My service was great - until the past 2 weeks and it has degraded somewhat. I still seem to make and receive calls, but 3G is not as strong. I *hope* this is just an adjustment - or tweaking issue with the network for MMS (as I have read elsewhere). But, my cell is my business phone and I would buy one of these just to make sure I never have any problems in my home office.

If there's a monthly fee for this device, I'll pay for vonage at my apartment rather than pay for the microcell, just to stick it to them.

I have ZERO service at my place and it drives me crazy, but I hate AT&T with a passion and I'm not going to shell out more money per month because they can't get their act together and get cell service in my area.

i work right by a tower so i always have had rock solid 3g up until a couple weeks ago, it would dip to 1 bar and build back up to full and back down to 1. recently it has got better but not totally 100%. Im hoping this is maintenance. I just wish sprint worked better at my house because I would *****can AT&T and save 30 dollars a month and get unlimited everything.

I don't know how long Sprint will be able to stay in the market. They aren't doing so well.

It's turning into a duopoly.

Quick update, called local AT&T store in Charlotte, NC and they expect the microcell units to be on sale as early as Sunday 9/20 or next week depending on available units
Pricing is still unknown but the latest info is $150 unit cost, $100 rebate if you choose unlimited microcell usage @ $20 monthly so unit nets at $50
Pricing is high for annual usage but in my case I get zero coverage, in fact other carriers here are no better and I have a home office so the $20 monthly fee is WELL worth it to me.
Hope this info helps

Actually, the $150 price is excellent. I was expecting $250+. I'll just take the Microcell - I have plenty of minutes. I assume they are going on sale in CLT sooner than other markets since that was a test market. Thanks for the update.

Thanks for the info. Quick question if you know or anyone else knows. Does the unlimited usage means unlimited calls at home? Or does it count against your cell phone usage?

I called my local store and she kept saying that I was thinking of Micro SD. What a bimbo! LOL Did your store have any information on a firm release date?

Someone care to explain to me, how this is priced and how it is connected?

I know it hooks up your internet connection and it offers 3G, but what if your Internet is slower?

And from another perspective, I have 30mbit internet, can I get the full 7.2mbps the iPhone can handle over 3G here? I have WiFi anyway, but just curious

I think it should bump the 3G speed up. However I don't think it will be the full 7.2 like it can handle. I just care if I can make and receive calls without running down the street. I will let me wifi handle the data speeds.

It's a fee for the unit and $15/month for unlimited minutes. Or, be like me and just use your regular minutes.

My unit was free...beta tester

It seems like data speeds are reduced using the m-cell. I get faster speeds using 3G in Atlanta. But I need the m-cell in my apt just to get signal..

Sunday 9/20 is the release date, they did not know for sure if they'll have units in stock by Sunday, if not next week
