I think you'd have a better forum in a wireless carrier's forum

I'm not trying to "get the message out" or anything. I'm not rallying for Greenpeace... I just thought it interesting because of the ties to Apple who is so image conscious about being eco friendly.

Yes but that is Apples (no pun intended) and Oranges. Apple designs the computer and as such, dictates the manufacture process to the factories, holding them to a certain standard. Apple doesn't make SIM cards, SD cards, USB cables and a slew of other accessories for the Mac that use tons of packaging. So again, I fail to see your point here. :)

Well they seem to dictate so many instructions to the companies. Like with ATT, they dictate pricing, they take a %, secrecy, staff briefings, launch dates, customer support, staff training, manuals, they have a hand in it all. And ATT will do anything they say and bend over backwards for them.

Would make a lot of sense to be able to subscribe to paperfree billing through iTunes too...

Yes, and all that dictating is over service, not of manufacture of a product. :)

You mean for ATT bills? Or music? I just get email receipts for music and apps and such.

Yes i mean ATT billing. Apple should make it possible to subscribe to paperfree and should encourage it through iTunes to be "greener"

Yes, and all that dictating is over service, not of manufacture of a product. :)

They dictate workers rights and wages and environments to the manufacturers in China...

Yeah but ATT already has paper-free.

Yes, if you "opt-in". When I used to have an ATT iPhone contract, my bills came for MONTHS before i bothered to opt in to paperfree and they were soooooo thick. What a waste. If i could have opted in through iTunes, I would have.

Yes, and who are they making the product for? APPLE. :)

AT&T doesn't make the cards themselves, I am sure they have someone who makes their SIM cards, accessories, etc. Apple can ask I suppose, but in no way does or should AT&T comply. After all, plastic is recyclable anyway...

Because of this thread I combined my recycle trash, and regular trash into the same bin and put it in the regular trash can. Feels good!

Just try picturing the Microsoft "turtle" phone being all tangled up in plastic, and how would you feel? :p

Bottles and containers go into the "recycling" - it's a natural thing to do now. A little piece of junk plastic easily ends up in the regular trash.

And Apple should "try". They are partners with ATT and they should try to spread some of the good they've been doing. Just like if Belkin or someone offered an iPod case with a gratuitous amount of waste plastic packaging, they might not stock it in store. Apple's packaging is cardboard, and often the other 3rd party companies copy them to produce cardboard packaging to be "in-line" with Apple.

Then fault the consumer. :)

valid point. but you can't possibly be condoning the indefensible waste that is these SIMs. Just look at the pic! And i reckon there are many iPhone subscribers on here who haven't opted into paperfree billing when they probably could or want to and instead receive thick paper bills every month.

I don't recycle, I burn trash, feels more manly lol jk :p

Lol the funny thing is i'm not even a crazy environmentalist. I just posted because I thought it was rather funny how the microSIM mother card is so large. Now everyone here thinks i'm a raving loony. I try to recycle but i waste too sometimes. But wow... there are some people on here who won't even recognise it's a problem. how sad.

I looked at the pic, looks like the same amount of plastic that 99% of the world gets with a credit card.

I'm not condoning it but since it's recyclable, and AT&T and Apple are companies who wish to make money, and the form factor is cost efficient, I don't see the issue, how sad.

Agree to disagree I suppose. :)

Actually its the electronics in question that are the bad things... I mean your Macbook Air will eventually find its way to China where young kids inhale the vapor of it burning while trying to remove some worthless components from it.

So I wouldnt exactly be worried about the plastic around the sim card
