I'm stuck using Outlook (Mac) for work, that's bad enough.

I really, really hate the unification of calendar, contacts and email that is intrinsic to the design. What an awful idea from long ago - I hated it in 1998, I hate it now.

The complete lack of integration with native Mac services, coupled with the weird formatting bugs that cause Outlook emails look terrible on any other client is just too much. Apple Mail is better. Gmail is better. Mimestream is better.

Is this another completely new version of Outlook? I’m confused.

My current version allows you to switch between the old outlook and the new outlook but neither of them look like this?
No. Looks like actual version (do have the same layout)

That is almost exactly what the Office 365 version I am running now looks like. only difference is the top tool bar is left aligned on mine.

If anyone tries it, can they please check if it's possible to set up multiple "From" addresses for those of us who own a domain name?

I can do that so nicely in Apple Mail and Outlook on MacOS has never supported it.
Yes, it works very well. I use that functionality for my "support" and "info" addresses for my own domain.

I am confused by this. I thought there has always been a free version of Outlook for Mac like there is for iOS.

What is the difference being made here? Were there premium features that previous required a subscription? Or is this another download altogether?

Awesome, now add Exchange on Premise support for the Mac version and it might actually be useable for business purposes. Two years+ ago they said it's coming soon and pointed everyone who needs it to older versions of Outlook.
Our corporate email works just fine in Outlook via Office 365 mail servers. that is for several 10's of thousands of employees.

Microsoft today announced that its Outlook app for Mac is now free to use, with a Microsoft 365 subscription or license no longer necessary.
Anybody knows what's the deal with Outlook on iOS? Still requires a subscription? The only app I pay for is AirMail and I am considering a switch.

Edit - seems that iOS version is also free. Looks like it's time to kiss my last subscription (other than iCloud) goodbye.

Is this better than the default Apple mail client?
Depends, if you just need basic mail functionality, Mail.app will do just fine. If you need more, Outlook is better.

Apple has been neglecting Mac apps for a while now. Check Notes vs OneNote for example. OneNote wipes the floor with Notes. Literally the only thing Notes have advantage in is syncing across iDevices (unless you have 365 subscription, in which case even that is nullified).

Airmail has ONE feature that makes me pay for the yearly subscription;

"Show all messages of this sender"

Isolating all my emails to just one sender is a godsend. NO OTHER client has this.

And still no ability for contact lists unless you use the old outlook interface.
What do you mean? Contacts are built in and use the new UI, though the details probably depend on your accounts backend (like a Office 365 server)

That was a working "snooze" for me, which Outlook seems to have for free. I just need this and an unified inbox so I can look at all emails from my both accounts.

Very nice. Still need the other office apps anyways though.

If you need to access any shared mailboxes, the built in mail app won’t work for you.

Former Microsoft app-using folks now at GSuite shops are saying "Yay! I like Outlook better than the the Google web client and better than Apple Mail and Calendar 🎉" but their helpdesks are like "Dang it we gotta support another mail and calendar client now?! 😖"

That unification is one of the best features. I frequently turn emails into calendar events and email from calendar events to all attendees.

complex formatting is difficult to get right in outlook as it only supports a subset of html formatting but that is true of most email. it's not a layout program and you are better off keeping it simple.
