What about the AOL floppy disk days?
I'm a little too new to the world for those days :(, but I do remember DOS!

I also remember my dad giving me a RedHat Linux 2.0 disk with a computer, which I naturally installed and nuked everything on the computer by re partitioning it. Our one of our Dos 6.11 disk was bad and we had to copy needed files from my grandfather's computer to get the computer working again.

That and living off free AOL trial cd's... also AOL cd artwork using nothing but free trial cd's to make collages.

I remember all the damn CD's, I swear there was one in our mailbox almost everyday!

I personally never made collages with the CD's, but I had a girlfriend who did art with AOL cd's she did not like the waste of plastic and what not.

Now the real question: Do you still know anybody that pays to use AOL, while also paying for cable internet because AOL told them they need AOL to run their internet.

My neighbor does this, he has FIOS and AOL. He said he has AOL because the internet won't work without it....
I explained to him why it wasn't true.... he now claims to keep AOL because of their computer maintenance program.

PS: How do you like Edge for macOS? I like it, not as much as Safari obviously, but for being developer builds Edge is extraordinarily fast and stable as I have yet to have any technical problem with the browser. Just curious what you think?

For what little I've used Edge I like it. My standard browser is Firefox with security and privacy plugins enabled.

Next would be Chrome and third was Safari. Have to see how Edge would fit in.

I remember the 3.5" crunchy disks. Even remember 5 1/4" floppy disks but they pre-date the AOL stuff. :D

I do not know anyone who uses AOL anymore, but do remember back 10-15 (maybe less) years people paying for Road Runner and AOL at the same time. I would go over to their houses and ask what the hell they were doing?

How much is AOL these days?

AOL Desktop Gold is $4.99/month; web-only access is free.

AOL had its time. I do not even think I would pay $0.99/month for it.

Does AOL Desktop Gold have instant messenger or did AOL get rid of that?

AOL Instant Messenger was the best part of AOL in my opinion. We used it like crazy in high school and college!

None of my senior customers use IM; I don't know to be honest. They use AOL Desktop because they've always used it and don't want to know anything else. I keep them on it because the alternative is they don't have a computer anymore.

Another browser that isn't Chrome is good in my books. Too bad it doesn't support El Cap, I might try it on my MB though. When I have messed with Windows 10, Edge always ran well, perhaps it's even better with Chromium.

When we moved cross country 21 years ago our choices were very limited. AOL was a fixed monthly fee and we had friends on it. We much preferred the local Internat provider we had but 21 years ago we were still paying for long distance. :D

My times have changed. AOL and Compuserve are no longer what they once were.

The first AOL software I used was written in BASIC for my Commodore 64 and 1200 baud modem. It was published in Commodore Magazine and was several pages of text (this was before they started shipping floppies) and I remember having to scour a thousand lines of code to find a spelling bug.
