In most of what I've read, Safari is the best and fastest browser out there for the Mac

I am *not* seeing that as the case! Has anyone else noticed the lightning speeds of Edge?

Any recent comparisons out there on the interwebs?

PS - M$ just passed Apple as the most valued company on the planet.. good on them, they're doing a great job with applying AI everywhere! =)

Edge seems more compatible with occasional websites I've come across. For example, I just bought a Logi MX Mechanical keyboard, and Safari wouldn't show me the download link for the Mac software, and Edge had no problem doing so.

Edge has been a much faster browser, in my observation.

I could care less about ads and promotions.. and I'm not even sure how you're saying that about a browser? No browser I know of 'pushes ads' and 'promotes scamming websites' - one using browser software always chooses where they go and what they see.

Far too many ads, bad promotion from Microsoft and Edge promoted some scamming websites last year
in top searches that that did not delivery the goods or refund ones money.

Sounds like any browser and not untypical for a MS product.

Safari could suffer little bit from built in “vpn” if you have turned that feature on

Edge uses Chromium (the same thing used by Chrome, the world's most popular browser.) As a result, a lot of developers tend to develop/optimize their sites for Chromium. Safari uses WebKit.

This actually happened. If you used the default home page and clicked on a legitimate-looking story/article, you could have been redirected to a scam web site.

Have you tried yourself? It’s shockingly faster always
I use both and honestly can't tell the difference for the sites I regularly visit. Some sites seem faster in Edge and others seem faster in Safari, but I wouldn't be able to tell the difference if I weren't comparing them side-by-side. Do you have any examples where it's "shockingly faster" in Edge?

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be anti-Edge here. I do use and appreciate both browsers. My main gripe with Edge is that it'll often open up some tab/ad that they want me to see when I launch it. Usually it's to go through a whole slew of new features in the latest Edge update. I wish they'd put that under the Help menu so I can check it out on my own terms when I'm not in a hurry.

Also, I just got this when I launched Edge a few minutes ago. It may not be an ad in the traditional sense, but it is still an ad (to promote Edge, Bing, Copilot, Microsoft Rewards, etc). Is there a way to disable this? I haven't found it yet.

I guess you missed the shopping help from Edge, and lately, Chrome.

I set all my browsers to open the previous tabs, that’s probably why I haven’t noticed

I’m wondering based on your comments if my safari setup has gotten tangled. It’s a HUGE difference for me

I’ll keep watching for official comparisons

Got nothing to do with Edge. That is Bing. Change search engine to Google or something else if you don't like the results you get.

Edge is my second-choice browser and it works great on a couple of websites Safari doesn't seem to like. Hard to verbalize but it just "looks better" to my eyes than Safari. And it updates frequently, and manually. I still use Safari 95% of the time, but Edge is the only other browser on my Macs.

You can install uBlock Origin on Edge (along with any other Chrome-compatible extension), and suddenly the Internet becomes such a happy and ad-free place. 🥰

Meanwhile, Safari extension support, uh... well, it technically exists. It's just not actually any good.

Since Waterfox is getting slower and can not perform some needed functions after jan 4th
I decided to use "Edge' yesterday.
the start was horrendous, with every ad known on the internet and political storm on the landing page.
everything horrible about the way we try to live our lives and everything I avoid was staring me in the face:
edge-e.jpg

after figuring our how to get rid of this congestion, the program alway asked to "join" or :subscribe
to their software and data cloud plans.

after rejecting all the octopi gabbing
EDGE performed very well and streamed steadier than Safari and Waterfox.
still a nosebleed to install and set up and the pushing they do is not worth the effort.

there, happy?

I hoped this helped!

Start Edge in Private Mode (InPrivate), you will be pleasantly surprised :)
AppleScript, can be saved as an app
AppleScript:
do shell script "open -a /Applications/Microsoft\\ Edge.app --args --inprivate"

thanks for the tip!
I never used shell scripts since jaguar or maybe leopard on that imac g4
so i tried saving the code in scrips just now and will check later!

I stay away from terminal unless that command s going on a thumb drive!

I just wish that Safari would have the tracking and minimized Ads settings just like Edge has it like this below:

1. Off
2. Balanced
3. Strict

With the Strict option on my Windows home and work PC, I really see no ads at all.

Wish Apple would do the same for Safari.

Even Firefox has these settings as well.

Still will use Safari rather than Edge on my MBP since it’s not as full of bloated stuff that I don’t use…
