ah that's very disappointing then! I have it on my desktop and Laptop and my wife's laptop so if that's 3 purchases it's not worth it!
Three copies used for five years is still nominally cheaper than the $99 subscription.

Personally I’m fine with paying a bit extra for a copy I can use perpetually and that doesn’t change its behavior every few months.

THIS IS BIG! For Microsoft to break the subscription mold and offer their flagship product in a standalone variant, that makes a huge statement! @adobe, you paying attention?

The prices are insane:

Office 2024 comes in two editions. Office Home 2024 is $149.99 USD and includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote for one PC or Mac. Office Home & Business 2024 is $249.99 USD and comes with everything in Office Home 2024 plus Outlook and the rights to use the apps for commercial purposes. You can buy both editions from retailers worldwide and via Microsoft.comstarting October 1, 2024.

Cool I'll get this. For my new Mac I got this year and felt odd putting Office 2016 on it, but no way am I paying to subscribe to Office!!

There's no mention of the price, and from what I can see, it's not yet in the App Store.

I also wonder why they consider 365 to be the preferred version, yet in this version Excel performs faster.

I'm totally fine with it not having updates, but wonder if will at least get bug fixes and changes needed to remain compatible with future MacOS versions. If not, then I wonder when it will no longer work.
They consider 365 the preferred version as they want your money every month for eternity.

In 2019, I purchased the 2019 stand-alone version for Mac.

Then, in 2021 I purchased the "new" 2021 stand-alone version for Mac. However, that "new" 2021 version was the exact same version number as the 2019 version. Microsoft simply rebadged the same software. Very sneaky and disappointing.

Fortunately, Microsoft offered an immediate refund when I called them out on it.

So - my advice - be wary that the "new" 2024 version is not simply the 2021 (and 2019!) version that has been rebadged. For anyone that buys the (potentially new, potentially not) 2024 version, please note the current 2019/2021 version is 16.89.1.

Yeah, its great value with the included 1tb and even 1 hour free calling globally on Skype..
only great value if you are going to use all the functions.

I know it is not for everyone, but Pages and Numbers will work fine for a lot of people and those that want a little bit more can download something like LibreOffice. I used LibreOffice when I used windows, but now Pages and numbers work for me. Stull got Liobre office installed on the Mac and PC, because ac oupel of templates I have don't work so well with Pages.

Not saying it is for everyone, but for most home users, unless they really need 100% MS compatibility.

I did to even think Skype was still going, I think the majority of people use things like whatsapp.

The 1TB storage is good, but that dpends if you really need 1TB or even use online storage, i don't myself, prefer stuff to be stored localy.,

I’ve never understood why suck a prominent amount of window real estate is given to the auto save feature. While I don’t understand the use case for toggling this feature on and off, I can appreciate that someone out there needs it. Seems like a simple indicator could be sufficient, much like the horizontal and vertical text alignment formatting buttons.

Doesn’t seem like the most aesthetically pleasing aspect of the application. But I guess it IS Microsoft.

The prices are what Office pricing has always been. The current prices were the same nine years ago for Office 2016, so considering inflation it’s actually cheaper now. And if you only need it on a single device, it’s also significantly cheaper than the subscription over five years.
I reckon it's the best value Office suite out there.

Can we use these versions with an M365 subscription?
I can't imagine why you would. The apps are the same and M365 gets more features. If you sign in with your subscription you aren't using the standalone license anyway.
