Ubuntu, OS X are all reasonable replacements. I'm sure there's an open source replacement for things like Exchange and Active Directory. After all Ad is based on OLAP.

http://www.smallbusinesscomputing.c...Source-Alternatives-to-Microsoft-Exchange.htm

http://www.osalt.com/active-directory

http://www.mysql.com/ --> Alternative to SQL Server

and so on.

2014 = The Year of Linux finally.

There are alternitives , but. Tons on " pros " and consumers have tons of money in windows software, big enterprise, millions invested.

I'm aware there are alternitives, but so far, linux isn't user freindly, osx is only on macs, neither of them give most people a reason to switch

Some people need windows, like me. The softwate we use, no nix version. And even if there was an osx version. Osx wouldn't be able to do it.

Who knows maybe it will be a wholesale Mac/XServe revolution in the enterprise soon! Oops, Apple killed the XServe. Maybe it doesn't matter, they have OS X Server right?

Is that legal for Microsoft to use their money to show they got high profit when the profit was low that quarter?

It like saying I'm a company I get x money every quarter and do to this quarter I got less money in profit I use my money to show that I got high profit that quarter .

Enterprises will be lining up to buy Mac Pros!

No Microsoft is having very hard time to tell Enterprises or business to do away with windows XP and move to windows 7 or windows 8 .

Any Enterprises or business do not like change and they do not want spend money training people to use new OS.

With windows XP with SP3 it just works for Enterprises or business .

Eventually they will get Windows 7 and that means massive new revenues for Microsoft!

When Microsoft stops supporting windows XP but than again many will still use windows XP will lack of updates and support .

Just like it was hard to kill IE 5 and IE 6 users.

Well yeah, we will see a change over to windows 7/8. Once xp stops doing what its users need it to.

Damn right they will. They'll tell microsoft to take their ****** software that isn't turning into iOS,and shove it.

Entire data centers will run off mac pros and ipads!

Yesssssss!

No most do not like laptops they like desktops and apple is not into desktops they want .

Plues they do not want to spend money getting new software and training people how to use new OS.

The iMac and Mac pro desktop is not the desktop Enterprises or business are into like accounting ,stock or office apps are into.

Oh yeah, a 2 year old overpriced massive workstation with no rackmount option!

Data center operators will be lining up

Servers are not workstation and only people that use servers are admin.

That is why MS has workstation that are desktop tower and servers in backroom that locked room for the admin.

The thing is Enterprises or business do not like new software or new OS do to it cost them money . So Microsoft is in it for hard fight.

And cost money to get new software ,new OS and train people and they new windows XP with SP 3 it all just works . Well they do not know that about windows 7 or windows 8 to all the reviews come out.

One of the things about windows vista it did not support old software. And the public and them hated MS for that.
