Microsoft today released updates for both Office 2008 (12.1.5) and Office 2004 (11.5.3). The updates provide a number of security, stability, and performance-related fixes.

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.5 Update weighs in at 103.6 MB and addresses security vulnerabilities and increases stability and reliability throughout the suite of Office applications. The update also provides specific performance improvements for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Entourage. A full list of improvements is included on Microsoft's update description page.

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.3 Update weighs in at 15.1 MB and addresses stability issues when opening and closing documents in Word and Excel. The update also provides updated time zone information for Entourage. Microsoft's update description page details these improvements and provides additional information about the update.

Finally, Microsoft released Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 1.0.2, which fixes security vulnerabilities in Microsoft's conversion software that enables Office 2004 and v. X to open documents saved in the Open XML format used by Office 2008. The update weighs in at 44.8 MB, and additional details on the update can be found on Microsoft's update description page.

No. It's still broken.

Adi

Many people must be having the same problem with Word 2004 and Spaces. Whenever I drag an open document to a different window on spaces, it shows up as two documents stacked on top of each other (you would probably have to see it to understand what I was talking about).

Am I the only one with this problem? Do you think it will be fixed with this update?

I have noticed Word and Powerpoint load a lot quicker after the update...

Same here. Surly it's time people stopped criticising Office 2008 ... apart from Spaces (which although I admit is an extremely annoying problem, I don't use it enough to personally affect me), I have ZERO problem with it. To be honest I've never been too bothered about loading time, but after this update, word, excel and powerpoint are loading in half a bounce on a first-gen intel macbook ... they must be doing something right.

Other than Spaces, I don't have any other problems either... although for me, Spaces is a pretty big issue because I use it a lot... From what I hear though, it's an Apple issue, not a Microsoft issue.

It's not just Spaces. The open word document windows also group together when not in Spaces. Sometimes I have a Word document on one half of the screen and a Safari window on the other half with the other Word documents behind these two windows. I click on the Word document to edit it and all the other word documents pop up on top of Safari. They seem to like to work on the same layer and act as one application like the palettes in Photoshop or something.

Still the slowest suite of apps to launch for me and its even more annoying that its bloated and i cant trim it

Hopefully it fixes the bug I just discovered today where sometimes word won't re-draw the page correctly if the text can't decide which page it belongs on (like if you have a short paragraph at the end of a page) ;)

I mean, downloading now:cool:

I am weary to download this.

Apparently it still doesn't fix Spaces issues. And to all those who claim this is an Apple issue not an MS one, tell me why Office '08 is the ONLY application on the Mac that has this issue. NOTHING else suffers from this. This is just MS not knowing how to code for macs and overcharging for the piece of junk software that they call Office '08.

Also, does anyone know if it causes the updater loop? (if you have one of "those" serials, if you know what I mean :D)

Clearly you don't use Photoshop CS3.

This has the nasty spaces issue where you have to hide/unhide your palettes to see them.

Or BBEdit, which has the sometimes disappearing Documents Drawer.

From what I understand also is that it's not entirely Microsoft's fault. Developers have hinted to me that some of the issues are Apple's.

Wow

Many carbon apps have issues with spaces, it's just a nasty apple.

On topic... WOW. I don't think I've seen Word open this fast since I installed Word 95 on an XP machine! Jee wiz, props to microsoft, this just became a quality piece of software

Wholly cow! I just tested the startup time with word and pp here and it's at least 2x as fast ! MS is indeed doing something right.

Keep it up !

Adi

My rant? Now I have to reinstall Office then apply three updates to update because I deleted Entourage and Messenger.

Micro$oft. I don't need your bloatware junk.

I'm still having this very odd problem where the preference option for "blue background, white text" has somehow turned into "black background, white text." Hoping this would fix it. Maybe the next one...
