So ironic
. (I couldn't decide which link was best)

Hehehe, no, I was also aware that XP's default theme is referred to as the Fisher-Price theme. Sorry. Anyway, I wasn't aware of that noire theme. Not bad. The ironic thing to me, though is how MS' theming, even when perfectly consistent, is jarring, and Apple can manage to have five or six different window looks open and still convey a feeling of consistency most of the time. The biggest problem with the original XP look to me is that suddenly you have the Windows classic grey look inside the Window, and the style doesn't carry down to the level of the inside-window widgets and so on. I personally actually think the concept of fisher-pricey part of the XP look isn't bad, if it had been carried out at all levels of the OS.

I just read this on slashdot.com... I'm wondering if Microsoft can "legally" make such a stipulation... Virtual machine or not...

Do we have any lawyers in the crowd?

Yep indeedy. They are selling a licence to use software and they are free to stipulate the terms of the licence.

You are of course free to break the licence if you want to (but face the possibility of legal action against you if you do)

I heard a rumor that some other company only licenses its operating system to be run on the computers manufactured by itself. Can you believe that?

Yes, but it does not require microsoft to do any extra work to allow mac users full Vista compatibility...while Apple would have to enable drivers and everything for a smooth experience, while sacrificing the all-in-one simplicity. Microsoft does not have this to lose, as their OS is mainly on Dells and HPs...

FWIW it's apparently not a technical limitation as some have reported success in running Vista Home in Parallels.

So despite the EULA forbidding this use, they don't actually do anything to stop you from installing or using it.

I was running Vista Ultimate in my Parallels, ran fine.

And this reminds me how much I hate Microsoft.

why does anyone even bother with vista..... i have it and its not that great...in the words of steve jobs... "Microsoft is just putting out 3rd rate products" and thank you. :apple: :apple: :apple:
