Personally, I wouldn't stick ANY stickers on my mac. I hate that when you buy a windows laptop, or even desktop you get a dozen stickers all over it. I don't feel the need to list the entire specs of my system on the case.
The "Intel" stickers are required by contract.

Fortunately, most are easily removed.

I am new to the Mac world - purchased my mac about 2 months ago, and after a few weeks of tinkering and figuring it out - I at this moment have a Macbook that is 100% running Windows 7. It runs the Mac better than Mac OSX did.. Kinda od. I guess, "Im a PC"..?

It only takes one newbie.

The only sticker I have ever considered putting on my MBP is a small label on the bottom that says, "Hello, I belong to [me]. If I am lost, please call (xxx)xxx-xxxx".

On my PC notebooks, I'd usually leave the stickers b/c some of them leave a residue on the case. HP was infamous for loading up an otherwise nice notebook w/ a ton of stickers.

I know, I'm silly in thinking that people are honest enough to return it if it ever got lost...it's a holdover from childhood :)

When I was doing some part time work at my college, I noticed that those annoying OEM stickers would magically disappear off of most of the computers.

It didn't really matter since we had a paper log of every install (asset tag and license key).

It started to matter if we needed to reinstall windows. I found that people had been ripping them off and using it to activate fully licensed copies of windows XP pro.

That was totally clever! Nowadays I don't put them out with the machines, but keep them with the install media. It's too risky to have them get lost and especially have prying eyes write down the key.

Suit yourself. My Mac runs 10-20°C hotter under Windows 7. I would never call it 'better', even if there're fewer processes and less RAM is used up by OS. I guess I'm just a human.

I noticed that on my install XP doesn't properly control the fan speed for some reason. I boot into OS X and set the fan speed to 5000 rpm and the reboot into XP.

I think it has something to do with the SMC drivers on the windows side. I think there is an application that will let you control this, but I had a bad experience with it and haven't reinstalled it since.

Windows on a Mac is a definite thing. Our machines are incredible and can run whatever we throw at them! It's just a driver thing that I hope Apple fixes (doubt it).

I don't think that's accurate actually -- I believe the computer manufacturer gets a small cut from Intel should they put those stickers on the machine. Apple would never do that, so they don't get the cut. Hence the reason why Macs don't have "Intel inside" or "Designed for Windows Vista" stickers on them.

Guys, this thread's 3 years old.

So it is. And no surprises to see a newbie resurrecting the dead.

On my desktop I have put all the stickers I was given with the components on the case, but that's just because they're shiny.

Nothing on my macbook.

Just as an FYI, when you buy a PC, they have stickers because the vendor is paid to put them there. It's the same reason that PCs come preloaded with a pile of crap applications with 30 day trials or whatever.

Let's say I was a top 3 PC vendor. I built something for $1000, and will be selling it for $1200. 20% margin. Not bad.

Now let's say that MSFT will discount my cost of goods by $10/machine if I put their sticker there. And NVidia says the same thing. And so does Intel.

You went from a $1000 cost of goods sold to 970, it lets you drop your price by 30 bucks to undercut your competition, or maintain it and make an extra $30/machine.

When I worked for one of the top3, we got a presentation on why all the crapware was installed.

A slide showed AOL.
AOL icon on the desktop = $1.00 / machine. (Sell 3 million machines annually...)

AOL icon on the desktop CLICKED by the user = $5.00 / machine.

AOL icon clicked, and registered = $10.00 / machine.

AOL icon clicked, registered and maintained beyond 30 days = $something ridiculous like $100 back.

Apple chooses to have very clean looking equipment. They have no competition in their chosen market segments, and as such have not had to stoop to advertising for other companies to lower their costs to remain competitive.

I wouldn't dare stick one on my Mac.

I said this as the licence agreement states it must be on the case of the machine. So, it has to be on by law.

Steve1496, if you got no stickers, they either forgot to pack one, or it's not a legit copy.

Maybe that's true if you got the retail or OEM version, but there are other versions (ie XP Corporate or MSDN verions) that I was able to download off of a server, and hence don't have any physical parts, such as a sticker, to put anywhere.
