Interesting result in shopping for new 15” M3 MBA on sale, the Midnight color was cheaper than other colors [at B&H]. Since it is for my daughter (and she will cover it with stickers anyways), It made the decision to get the Midnight color much easier.
Will the midnight color have those "sticker marks" left over like the space gray Macs?
(like the picture in the last post here?)

I like the midnight color myself, but I ended up going with a silver mba (m2). After a year the only mark on it is a slight scratch on the apple logo.

On my daughter’s current 2017 Silver iMac there are residual marks when she removes stickers (to replace with newer stickers). I suspected the residual marks were more a function of the type of adhesive on the stickers, Not sure if the finish of the iMac had any impact

just got the M3 midnight, literally took it out the box and it's already covered in smudges and fingerprints just from holding it. wiping with a simple microfiber cloth didn't do anything. had to get a thicker microfiber towel and even that took some work to clean off the smudges.

ive had many macbooks from silver to space grey over the years, ipads too. this midnight macbook color is by far the worst when it comes to visible smudges. it's not greatly overblown it's real.

Midnight looks so fresh coming out of the box, and then it's covered in smudges. My wife has the midnight, I use a thick microfiber and cleaning spray from my eye glasses and it works pretty well. I like my starlight color pretty well

Whatever you do, don't smear Vaseline on the MacBook. I know someone who did this because it hides fingerpir

An easy and cheap solution that will eliminate all fingerprints is to wear surgical gloves each time you use the MacBook.

You yourself is generating traffic in regard to this. It is logically obvious that dark colours will leave a residue behind, the lighter the colour, the less it is obvious. Now if this is an issue to YOU, then all you have to do is wipe those marks off more frequently. But outright stating, therefore discounting all other people's comments about this, is rather naive.

Here's the deal though: most people don't give a rat's behind about the smudges. They like the midnight color because it does look great & it's got a stealth look it to it. They also probably don't possess that much OCD. We know that people just use the computer without a care in the world about minor scratches or dents. "Oh well," they'll say. They run the computer for years, right into the ground, until they need to replace it. And here's also another truism: most people don't even notice their friend/colleague/family member's smudgy midnight MacBook finish either. Hell, most people don't notice these details unless they're actively inspecting it. To the OP's point, it is overblown.

I saw a guys smudge covered midnight MacBook Air from across and coffee shop. It looked bad. IMO it’s extremely noticeable. Not that it really matters. But my first impressions are always “gross”

Might have been an M2 model. Remember that the M3 models have been specifically engineered to reduce this. I can certainly say that mine has never looked "gross".

Just picked up the base m2 mba in midnight. I’m super careful with my stuff and somehow managed to ding my palm rest. Makes no sense whatsoever how I managed it, but the aluminum color underneath is obnoxious. Honestly though, who cares. It’s an awesome little machine. I miss my m1 mba, but I have it to my kid for college and wanted another. Overall, the pros outweigh the cons. Apple did good with the new design, but let’s hope they stick with it for as long as they did with the iconic wedge, and not change it up every few years like they do with their phones.

My wife got a Midnight MBP 2.5 weeks ago, I really love that color. Anyways, maybe it has something to do with the lighting in the room but I can't see any fingerprints on it at all and she uses it almost daily.

Like the guy above noted, on the New M3 Air's they put a protective coating over the Midnight color to reduce finger prints and smudges---I'm guessing that it actually works!!! I hope that is true as I'm planning on getting a new Midnight Air within the next week or so!!

Do you still have your midnight version? Like it still? Im thinking of getting one but not sure about how it holds up over time
I have had my M2 MBA since before August last year. It doesn’t have any scratches but always shows smudges and fingerprints.

I’m fairly obsessive about keeping it clean. It also doesn’t get much use as I have two 28 core Mac Pros.
