I waited in line all night for the first time ever when the iPhone 4 came out in June. Everyone thought I was an idiot but it was actually quite fun and the time went by really fast. The people there in line with me were great and the conversations were mostly about Apple and their products. Apple did buy us Dunkin Donuts and gave out Smart Water. Right before they dropped the curtain covering the windows all of the Apple employees ran out and gave everyone in line a high five and everyone started cheering, clapping, and yelling. I would definitely do it again for sure.

I HATE waiting in lines, and would do ANYTHING to avoid some of the scenes at the Apple stores on Launch Day.

For example, I tried like crazy to be the lucky ones to score an iPhone 4 order online through Apple.com on June 15th. Tried all day...dealing with crashing servers, etc...Finally got through, and had my iPhone 4 delivered to my door the morning of June 23rd....long before most people even began lining up for launch day on June 24th.

To be honest, the launch day stories of those who waited in line in front of an Apple store posted in the iPhone forum were enough to make me NEVER want to wait in line for anything Apple.

Of course, if I were 16, it might be exciting, but when I think back to when I was 16, I STILL don't think I would have enjoyed waiting in line.

My advice is to PRE-ORDER the day pre-ordering begins, and have your new iPad delivered to your door.

Let's face it...a line is a line...and you have PLENTY of lines in your future.

Thanks. Good advice, I'm sure I'll get sick of lines soon enough, but for now I don't really trust the Australian post office, they're nearly as accurate as our weather guys (not very accurate)

Sweet, sounds like fun, I hope they're nearly as awesome on the gold coast apple store

waiting in line is usually fun at the apple store and it's something I recommend doing at least once in your lifetime. since your 16 you have some time to make it happen.

oh and I was one of those guys who passed on the iPad for a few months and one day I walked into best buy and before you know it I left the store with iPad in hand. it really is a magical device.

Yeah I walked into my apple store and I was so tempted to buy one even though I didn't have the money. straight after I used it I was like, 'I must have this'. And thought it every time I went back so I don't think it was just a spur of the moment thing.

Ive got another little question though, if the next iPad is just a small upgrade (like everyone says with just spec bump and FaceTime and gyroscope) what's Steve gonna do for an hour and a half on stage next January or February in the keynote. He can't just talk about apple updates and then FaceTime jony ive for an hour. If there's not much new, I'm just curious what he'll talk about for an hour and a half in 4 months. What do you guys think??

I recently waited inline for the opening of an apple store. Very much fun.

Apple have managed to turn something ordinary into something exciting just by the amount of hype they build.

I got to talk to upper level apple staff, spoke to other apple users and got a free apple tshirt.

It is not just waiting in line. It may have been once but these days apple turn it into just bother of their carefully planned buying experiences.

I pre ordered my iPad so i got it on day one. I got it at 6pm and it was delivered by a private courier. Not Australia post.

A friend of mine went to the store and lined up and bought it and had it from e early early morning while i waited on the couch for it to arrive.

I don't think the next iPad is going to be a small update.

I don't think apple ever thought it would sell the way it did. The kept the device as simple as possible in order to keep the cost of the device down. They needed to make as much profit from each unit while not pricing it as high as they normally would. They did this because they thought numbers were going to be low. Instead they spent the first five or so months sold out and have had to increase production to almost three times the initial volume. If they had known they would be selling millions every month for the unforeseeable future they could have been more generous on each unit and reduced their per unit profit.

The next update they are going to make the ipad all over again.

Yeah I hope you're right, and also the iPad is really really really popular right now so I think they'll update it generously. Look at the iPod nano 2 years ago, it was the most popular iPod and got most of the attention in 2009, and this year the touch overtook the nano in popularity and then this year it got all the (good) features. Feeling a bit sorry for classic owners. They could've at least given them guys a speaker or something. I find I'm getting more and more excited by the day what the new iPad might have which is strange because it's still a few months away and it just makes the wait even longer.

I waited in line for the iPad release. It was pretty fun chatting with the other people while waiting for 9am. I think I got there a little after 4am, so we had a few hours to chit and chat. I also converted about 6 people to the jailbreak side (in regards to their iPhones) and got them excited to wifi tether with the iPad :)

And IMHO, the Classic didn't need an update ;) It's perfect the way it is, especially since it'd be crazy expensive if they fit a SSD in one of those cases.

Alright, I guess you're right about the classic. I can never really speak on behalf of it because I'll probably never buy one. I just didn't like how Steve said in the keynote that every one of the iPods got a complete new redesign, even apple tv, but it was like the iPod classic never existed. But I reckon 5am should do it for my apple store. If you were there early, around what time was there suddenly a growth spurt in the line?? Because it would be nice to get there before that. Thanks for all the replies too :apple:

At the store I was at in Milwaukee, WI, there were a lot of people showing up at about 7am. I would say just so long as you're there a few hours before the store opens, you should be fine :)

Cool thanks, I don't wanna get there hours early, and robookpro I think you're right now cause I saw the ifixit teardown and I was surprised how much empty space there was. Apple products are usually packed to the edge. The rumors should start getting exciting soon. I hope there are more rumors soon.
