I recently bought a Verizon MiFi, in fact I bought it this past weekend. Originally I was going to get a 3G iPad. After viewing my friends iPad and what he has set up, (MiFi) I opted to go the same route since his situation was similar to mine.
For my laptop I was accessing the Internet via a laptop connect card from AT&T. My contract on that card is expiring shortly so I was debating this issue. I went with MiFi because the service cost is the same as the laptop connect card and now both my laptop and iPad and even my iPhone can be connected at the same time and as such I can now take advantage of many of the programs that sync via wiFi only such as Documents to Go, Pocket Informant, SplashID etc.
The MiFi device is about the size of 8 stacked credit cards and bfits nicely in the Targus net book bag I bought for my iPad so I could have it wherever I go.
I really like the device so far and have yet to run out of battery power with it.
