I just got a new iMac and it came with a mighty mouse. But this is no ordinary mighty mouse. It is so sensitive that the moment I place my hand on it, it thinks I am squeezing the sides. It even senses the heat (or motion) and activates the squeeze function when my hand hovers a couple of cm above the mouse.

Also the right click refuses to work, and it continually makes these internal clicking sounds. I have no idea what it's doing! In order to use it, I have to turn off all options and make it into a 1-button mouse with a scroll feature (which also works sporadically).

Either I have a unique collectable piece of Apple history, or Apple has a quality control issue. Anyone have these problem?

(Oh, and I am typing this on an Apple Extended Keyboard II because I am nostalgic for Apple products that work.;) )

Its Garbage, throw it in a drawer for an emergency and go buy a real mouse, Microsoft,Logitech, etc. Apple has lost its way with mice. Its been downhill since the black pro mouse. Mighty mouse was a solution looking for a problem.

I have 3 mighty mice and they all work just fine.

Some are successful in their puchases some are not. Doesn't mean that *ALL* Apple mice are bad.

Sorry to hear that. Just get a replacement. I love my might mouse even though it does have one minor flaw. The scroll ball is too sensitive. It only affects me when I use firefox though. (which is never) When I scroll down the page it skips back a page if it detects the slightest side movment in the ball.

But now that I've switched to safari my troubles are over :D

Seriously though, other than that, it's the best mouse ever.

doesn't have to do with the mouse...it has to do with some silly prefence file in Firefox involving scrolling.

Yeah I played with the MM in the Apple store and... It sucks. I would take my Kensington Scroll Pad thinger anyday. I love it.

BTW- I have my original mouse that came with my iMac that I got in September (before they shipped with Mighty Mice) ...it's still in it's shrink wrap if you want to buy it.

Mine did the really sensitive side clicking thing once for a few hours. I finally got really annoyed and just squeezed the sides really hard, and it hasn't done it since. The Mighty Mouse is flawed for sure, but it's a matter of build quality from what I can tell. When it works, it's a wonderful mouse. I have a hard time using a scroll wheel now that I'm used to the great scrolling that the MM's scroll ball offers.

I love this. Just like every review, and every thread I've ever read on Mighty Mouse, about half hate it, and half love it. I guess this mouse must be an acquired taste.

I have a mighty mouse and its fine, must be bad luck.

Wow how rude. I have used many different makes of mice over the years and i think that the MM is one of the best ive used.

Surely the puck mouse was the beginning of the end  :D

My Mighty Mouse is doing the same thing today. In fact, it's kind of funny, because even when I'm not touching it, it randomly starts side-clicking like crazy. I have side-clicking disabled in the preferences, but you can still hear the click from the internal speaker. Squeezing it hard hasn't fixed it this time. Might take it into the Apple Store on Monday.

EDIT: As soon as I submitted this post, it started working again.

sell it on ebay to some poor fool :) , they are terrible mice. i bought one when they first came out and had to return it cos' it stoppped scrolling, the second one came with my imac and it went straight on ebay. logitech or microsoft is the way to go imho

Try upgrading to Firefox 1.5. After I did that, the back and forward page skipping stopped. I think they may have disabled horizontal scrolling.

My opinion on the mighty mouse is, eh, mixed. I seem to have a good one with no problems, but I don't really find it exceedingly easy to use. I think I find using my MS Intellimouse easier overall.

Its just a mouse though, I'm not expecting it to change my life or anything. My powerbook has already done that. :)

You could just disable the squeeze function. It sounds like a problem. Mine does not do that.

I like the Mighty Mouse well enough. It's not very useful for most games, though. Can't left and right click at the same time.

UPDATE: mighty mouse part 2

Just endured long lines at a local Apple Store to exchange my defective mighty mouse for a new shrink-wrapped one. Guess what...THE SAME PROBLEM. Heat sensitive surface, irradic clicking, schizophrenic scrolling, refusal to right click.

Great job, Apple, on becoming the next Sony.

p.s. I won't even get into how my iPod video 30GB randomly restarts itself every 5-10 minutes. I guess Apple is debuting a new copy protection feature into its iPods--one that keeps me from "copying" any songs into my memory by not allowing it to finish playing.
