I ended up trying to go C1 but said screw it. It was too buggy. At least Adobe is stable and will stay up to date with modern cameras etc. I basically do what you and FWRLCK do.

After purchasing a Canon 6D in early July, I decided to try Capture One for post-processing. It took a while to get used to, but now that I've used it for a couple of months, I'm a pretty big fan. For RAW processing, it is very, very good.

Agreed that Lr and Ps both seem rock steady on my rMPB. The performance characteristics or reliability and available seem OK. But the performance characteristic of throughput/speed is pitiful. Good chance I will move to Photo RAW at the end of the month. It is released to the public on the 23rd. Members of the Plus program may get it a few days earlier.

Wow - mines rock steady...what kind of bugs were you having?

8 mos ago, I tried using C18 with a 10k image catalog. It kept crashing. I tried C9 with sessions for each shoot. It won't remember keyword changes to images I had keyworded earlier, hangs on the last image when making previews/exporting, slows to crawl/stop when batch keywording (~200, 300 images, 800 at the most. I didn't even bother with larger). I had a session crash 1-2 times. I tried changing XMP auto sync, everything.

Its a shame because I really do like C1 and sessions. A lot. But Iridient/LR looks good enough to me.

This has been a great read. (albeit somewhat confusing at times but maybe that was my late-night reading, and on mobile.)

I am still hanging onto Aperture (yet to switch to Sierra thanks to an "old" machine and work machine not ready for Sierra. I know I need to shift gears but I was [stupidly] waiting on Apple to introduce an Aperture Plug-in to purchase for Photos...so, now I need to shift to a new way of working and still need to figure that out.

I want a DAM and editor (preferably) all-in-one. I have photos in iPhoto & Aperture on two machines. this feels ike it will be somewhat painful. I think the first thing is to start doing a better job culling my photos and deleting ones I was just holding onto but not great images.

I tried looking into CaptureOne, RAW, & Luminar. I use Creative Cloud at work but don't like the subscription model for home use.

If you can figure out the roadmap at Macphun....let us all know. They did a major face plant on Sierra with Aurora, Aurora 2017, and at least Noiseless. Then comes Luminar with no clear roadmap of how fits into a workflow. Then we get the statements that Luminar will have it s own DAM someday...but no timeframe. So does Macphun want us to buy into Luminar replacing LR.....once it gets its DAM? And if using Luminar, what about the Creative Kit apps? Should they all be rolled into Luminar?

Unfortunate, I have 90k+ in my library and while slow launching it didn't crash with either C1 8 or 9. I've since split it and don't shoot session so can't comment there.

I am pretty jealous. I wish I could get it working. At any rate, for anyone following this exchange, definitely compare C1 Pro and LR (with a separate RAW converter if ACR doesn't do it for you).

I've been struggling to get C1 to work within my workflow, and also what I expect a software of this caliber to behave.

I hate the idea of paying monthly for LR, but it has DAM features that are very intuitive where as C1 only has the basics. I'm not giving up yet, but so for is been more frustrating to use for me then I think it ought too.

I've been using C1 for a while now (v7 now v8). I tend to use sessions since I prefer the event-driven approach to cataloguing. Also has the advantage of keeping the library size relatively small. Whilst I have Affinity Photo, I do 99% of all post-processing in C1, using Hugin or AP only for things like panorama stitching or exposure blending.

Occasional crashes but nothing that has ever resulted in lost material. Each to their own but I found the transition from Aperture to C1 relatively straightforward and the editing tools are more than enough for my needs.

I am not ready to move away from Aperture. Sierra offers so little that I am staying on El Capitan at least for another year. Maybe then I move to photos as I just have to many projects and not enough time to re-organize everything.

No problem with CO1Pro 10 as far as crashing when you have more than 10K photos. All my catalogs have between 20 and 30K images....

I just came to this forum to actually ask a C1P question. I am moving to C1P from LR (Originally I was from Aperture).
C1P Benefits: best RAW converter. Customizable workspace. Natural to use. Session workflow is very nice. Keyboarding system has been improved
C1P Cons: Keywords don't really kick in for the images until you export the file. That means, other programs won't see them. The Catalog is very prone to crashing once you hit 10K. As a DAM, it is just not up to snuff.

My recommendation: Try it out for a month. Like, REALLY try it out. Map out a workflow and think of every contingency. I tried C18, loved it, couldn't handle the lack of DAM, went to LR. Now I am back to C1, trying to find a way to edit my photos and have a DAM/searchable library or something that will let me batch metadata easily.

My current workflow idea is to edit/cull in C1, Keyword those files in Photosupreme or C1P, export jpegs, and then store the jpegs in Photos. I'm having trouble finding something that can see the edits in C1P, edit their metadata, and allow global search.

Photo Supreme supposedly does, but I haven't gotten it quite down and it doesn't support retina...
I haven't figure out Photomechanic.
