I've had a Note 8 for a couple of months and experienced no lag, and honestly couldn't tell you what is different in Facebook between iOS and Android. That is coming from years on iPhones and last two years on a 6s+.
There is nothing wrong with the default Samsung messaging app. There are other choices of you don't like it. I like most of Samsung's software. The issue with messaging is that iMessage is proprietary and does back to MMS for non Apple devices and MMS sticks. This is the biggest annoyance with Android, if you message with a lot of iOS users. My whole family has iPhones but e have worked it out.
Zero of the things on your extensive list have been a problem for me on the Note 8.

To the OP, I have throughly enjoyed the Note 8 and Gear S3 so far. It's the most fun I've had and most excited I've been with a smartphone in years.

Apple will need to really do something significantly better than the X to have me moving back to an iPhone.

Probably the only sane and sensible reply in the thread lol.

Someone asked a similar question to yours and my answer is do baby steps to switching over to Android (like downloading and using mostly Google apps and other third party apps) esp if you are more invested in the Apple ecosystem. In my personal experience it is much more easier to switch over to Apple because it is so easy / simple and everything is baked in than it is with Android with much more customization. You also need to do research because you will find yourself wanting to switch back because of x, y and z... so I would do lots of research and testing in real life and find the real nitty reason what you liked about iOS, what you like in Android, and how can you accomplish what you need to do in an Android vs iOS.

I acknowledge this may be viewed as clickbait. Don't view if you don't want to support an evil Android user. But this is an informative video from a lifelong Android guy. I had no idea iMessage was so kewl! and at the same time so lame.

Wow, that was so informative- I learned a few more things. With iOS some of the feature are quite hidden because they try to make it look clean (this has been my experience switching to Apple, if you don't learn the features from watching a video or something, you'll probably never know it) , simple etc. I do not like animojies but iMessage is definitely something I will miss if I go to Android but he brought up some neat Android feature that I think it's more useful.

Who knew that some lifelong Android user on youtube would teach new tricks that a lifelong iOS didn't know.

I know what you mean. However, I wouldn't categorize myself as lifelong Android or iOS users. However, he has done his research and uncovered some features that I have not really touched. After a while on the same platform (this time it is with iOS) sometimes, you just get bored and not really play with the phone like you used to when you first got it. I get this feeling typically after I had the phone for a while. It is especially easy to get bored with iOS with everything so simple and it is easy to forget there are new feature and they are more like nuances because of their subtleties.

I was talking about me as the lifelong iOS guy actually. I learned all kinds of silly things on that video. I'm now going to start annoying other iMessage users with memes and effects.

I see. I already started. I downloaded Game Pigeon and started playing with friends / family. I think the ability to play a simple game inside the message app is great.

I just remembered iMessage is a copy of Facebook Messenger. I love FB Messenger- you can play games, send files, money and iMessage is built just like that. Messenger have had all these features before iMessage (like sending photos without a new screen and directly from the bottom of the text input panel. Also the ability to take photo in the text input panel) but the difference was there was less people to interact with and they are not always on Messenger (or refuse to install it.)

In my experience, there are a LOT of direct copies of different software features iOS copied and implemented...I do not like the fact that they copy from the competition so much and yet they sue anyone who take inspiration from them but feelings aside, the beauty is that it is implemented within 1 system with a cohesive feel. I only hope they copy off the note 8. :p

I like the notifications on Android.
Notification light
Samsung Pay (Not an android thing but like it)
Being able to set up events based on actions, locations, etc.
Customize home screen
Widgets - a pro and con honestly. I wouldnt want it on iOS but do like a few of them on android. Some are just a mess.

Those are just a couple examples. I can live without them but at the same time do like them.

Nice list, these are things I like .. iPhone to S8 switcher a few months deep now:

- Split screen apps .. youtube in top half, whatsapp in the bottom - incredibly useful
- Secure folder .. like having 2 phones in 1, useful for keeping work/personal apart
- Dex docking. Really liking this, just ordered an HP lapdock to go with it so my phone can be a laptop too!
- SD card storage
- 1/2 the cost of an X

So I made the switch. The main reason for that was the cost. I'm saving over 600$ since I used the 350$ off best buy offer. Also the hardware seems to be more or less the same.

Things that I am missing g:

All my passwords...
Not able to scroll quickly to the top
Not able to swipe to the right to go back
The feeling that something does not feel right

I guess for 600$ I can leave with that...

If you're referring to webpages for quickly scrolling to the top, then make sure to be using Samaung's stock browser. So much smoother than most browsers and useful features. You get ad blocking, also biometrics login for websites, and you also have quick scroll to the top button and night mode. As for things not feeling right, give it lots and lots of time. You're in the process of undoing years and years of familiarity and muscle memory of another OS. One last thing, I would also try swiftkey for your keyboard. I personally like it over the stock keyboard. Especially for customization.

What phone did you get? Also what was this offer - is it carrier specific?

As someone else already said the samsung apps support scroll to top. Move over to a platform agnostic password system like lastpass - I think you might even me able to migrate your keychain if you have a Mac. Try 'all in one gestures' app to fix the swipe right thing. It'll feel right over time, been there. Just wait until you can find out what you can do that you cannot on iOS and enjoy the 600$

I got the note 8. The promotion was 350 off with Verizon.

Thanks for the tip on the internet Samsung app. It has a cool night mode too!

At this point in time, I do not want to use another third party app for passwords.

I'll try the keyboard.

Samsung browser (excellent btw) has scroll to the top. Learn to use the back button. Takes a while but its very good.

Samsung pass is samsungs native password manager. It uses your fp where available . Its great, try it
