Yes, always do what you wanna do no matter what anyone says to the contrary. Having said that however, i would definitely NOT buy an ipad mini 4 now. I just wouldn’t, and i LOVE the ipad mini. I would absolutely wait until March when the new one is “suppose” to come out if you can.

The ipad mini 4 is over 3 years old. It’s the only ipad without pencil support, and it costs MORE than the regular 2018 ipad which has an A10 chip & pencil support. No. Just no.
And what happens when there is no iPad Mini announced in March? Wait for WWDC in June? And if not June, the October event?

There have been quite a few sales on the Mini 4 over the last 9 months... as low as $200 for a new 128GB Mini 4... but people held off because it was going to be WWDC '18, then the October event... now early 2019.

I said back in March when the 2018 iPad was announced that there would be no new Mini this year... regardless of what Ming-Chi Kuo said. The 2018 iPad with the specs and price made it clear that no Mini would be forthcoming. I take no joy in being correct because I had been a very strong advocate for an updated Mini with Pencil support.

Depending upon one's needs, the Mini 4 is still quite useful and there is no alternative for those who need a 7.9" iPad.

Having said that, I would strongly discourage anyone from paying full MSRP for a Mini 4. Snoop around, keep a sharp eye out for sales... but then again, if someone has been waiting all of 2018 for an updated Mini then they clearly don't "need" it and can afford to wait another year or two.

Duh. Nobody knows for sure when/if Apple will update the ipad mini, but i stand by my statement. I would wait. I think this is sound advice. Not saying the ipad mini 4 is useless, but i also think it’s neglegent for me NOT to advise people to wait if they can. I’m waiting. Yes, the ipad mini 4 is still useful. My 10 year old iMac is still useful. Again, what i am saying is that if you love the ipad mini form factor like i do, why not just wait a few months if you can. Personally, i think it will be worth the wait. Thank me later.

IMO, yes. I have 12 on a few of my other iOS devices and they all run better on 12 than on 11.

If I do a clean restore on iTunes, how do I download the apps from the iOS 11 backup?

Definitely, iOS 11 was one of the buggiest iOS releases Apple has put out in a long time. iOS 12 is basically a bug fix and performance optimization to iOS 11 and performance improved across the board (right down to the iPhone 5s, iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 which are 5 years old at this point).
How is the battery life? Has it dropped much?
