the problem is not osx , not your mini , its your tv ,
not all tv's are suitable for connecting a computer
i hava a plasma tv which works fine even when i connect my eMac to it as it offers all possible connections so i just use the vga port , ok its only a poxy 37 " plasma tv and not a 50 " one , but big enough for watching tv, but the tv does notice when i connect the eMac to it and is changing aspect ratio to match 1280 x960 (it cuts of a bit on the top and bottom and sides so even i did not measure it i do not get the whole 37" maybe only 30" when connecting the eMac )

How idiotic are you? Yes, I am personally attacking your attitude. If OS X is unsuitable for his TV, why would it be his TV's fault? What the OP is looking for is a method to use his TV in its native resolution and enlarge OS X font size.

You can't increase the font size in OSX like you can in windows. If that's what your referring to.

That's the issue here, it has nothing to do with his TV. Any 1080i/p TV set is going to have that issue, as the font size that OS X uses is just too small for many high-density or far away monitors. This has nothing to do with Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, or the like.

If anything, it sounds to me like you has an OS X issue as well, but you blame it on the TV too. Let me give you a hint: If you used Windows or Linux, you wouldn't have part of your picture cut off. It's an OS X issue, and OS X only.

To the OP: I'm sorry, there's no way to adjust text size in OS X. I'm afraid you're SoL. Here's another poster who has the same issue, only he's not using a TV.

Try this utility. It should help solve the problem. I'm not too familiar with it, but I have friends who have used it, and it's done the trick. After it's done installing, you can find it in your system preferences panel.

Computer + Plasma TV = not good. They will get burn-in from the menu bar and dock very quickly.

Maybe if there was some sort of full screen video watching software, it could be called FrontRow! :p ;)

Hi,

I have my mac mini connected to my LED tv and i do understand the problem of small text. I use the mini (or will do when my iMac arrives) as a HTPC so the small text wont be an issue. I can however change the output on the mini to a different resolution and the text size increases. 720p usually does the trick and sure the tv can adjust. I do recall other resolutions eg 420p (i think) but not too sure of the outcome. All in all the 720p resolution solves the small text for me. So the OS works with the tv. I dont know what problem you are having but perhaps your tv only has certain resolutions and those dont match OS X. Best of luck with it.

why does nobody notice when i am a bit sarcastic :(
do i need to point it out everytime , i thought people here are clever enough to understand when its getting sarcastic , but ok i put a warning up next time (danger sarcasm following )
of course i know that osx is only suitable for certain screen sizes if the screen is to big the font size especially the top bar is small that you cant really read it , but osx was never meant to work on screens bigger then 30 inch ,which actually is big enough for a computer monitor sitting in front of you on the desk , but even on a original cinema display the top bar reading when its more then 10 feet away from you needs good eyesight and most tv's are further away from the couch

op's options are simple smaller tv or tools , if both does not work to his satisfaction , then a windows pc :(

I installed SwitchResX, but it looks a little hard to use... Can anyone help me through it? Also, if this helps... The current display setting is 1080i but my TV only supports up to 720p. When I choose 720p, the TV says mode not supported, which is weird..

Thanks

The General-

I did what you recommended about the screen share thing and it ALMOST worked!

The size of the text is much better, etc. The only thing now is that the computer picture doesn't fully fit the screen. There is about a little more than an inch black border going around the desktop. I just need to "stretch" it somehow.

Any ideas on this? Thanks
